I guess I've become the Gallifreyan Recycling Agency

Near the college I'm currently attending - not the one I just graduated from
there is an industrial park where I found those huge cardboard tubes in the trash (they look very much like concrete forms)
I've been periodically checking to see if they have thrown away any more.

Today after helping my director edit from 9:30am to 5pm - I copied all the files onto my portable terabyte Western Digital passport and put it in my bag, and checked the bins. Success - there were some more tubes, ... ok someone had cut a couple into small sections but they would still help me make the Tardis Ionic columns. I couldn't raise anyone on the phone to see if I could get a ride, so I had to improvise. I tied a length of rope around the tubes so they would stay tightly snug, and used my bicycle as a sledge/sleigh. A kind student saw me and offered me a ride home. We hit it off, he also wants to make movies, I gave him my email and told him to find me on facebook.

.... I left my bag in his Truck.

well hopefully he'll friend me soon and I can get my homework back. I guess I'll have to make my way back to the school tomorrow and get a fresh copy of the files. Though I seem to have strained my ankle in my adventures. I'm running cold water over it and taking aspirin so hopefully it doesn't blow up to the size of a balloon by the morning. *edit - it didn't do this - it seems to be fine.

I take it the cardboard tubes are for columns inside the control room?  if you find any tubes that look like the 2005 coral column structures let me know

Your welcome handofomega just remember if your dealing with a time lord that has just regenerated into a body under 5 foot he may have trouble reaching the controls. 

I may shorten the distance between the two.  It will make the central column less impressive but will reachable.

alliteratively you could have an adjustment screw to lower / or raise the overhead controls.

Really like it.  Question those cool lights, are they light up push buttons or just lights?

Either way cool stuff.  I was looking at some battery powered lights quite similar and was going to get them , until it became clear you could not replace the batteries in that model.

they are Car Dashboard "Indicator lights" - they have them all over eBay in a variety of sizes - 16mm and 22mm. The are just lights - though I could put them on springs so that they push in to the console or something.

I'm trying to find an "affordable" variable speed 1/4 hp motor so my rotor can go up and down.

Currently I'm trying to finish my contract on my current job so I can start work on the Studio to house my Tardis.  

But thank you for the encouragement - I can always use it.

Hi Nate,
Normally the lights you have just bought have a screw thread and possibly a screw collar included,so the install alternatives are,either ,if they have no collar drill the hole a fraction smaller than the diameter of the shank of the light,in which case you can screw them into the material your using for your console tops,and as they are not going to move they will be pretty well tight,or if they have screw collars just drill the same size hole and use the collar to hold them from the back,an option  for your raise lower lift can be a 12v windscreen wiper motor assembly (usually available from any car junkyard) you will need the whole assembly including arms etc as you may need them for your adaptation ,the windscreen wiper motors are pretty strong and can raise and lower a fair amount of weight ,and if you run them on 6v you can have them run pretty slowly,have a look at my build console regeneration in console build diary's (the black console) it gives you a pretty good idea anyhow carry on the good work

thanks type55tardis, I hadn't considered windshield wiper motors ... I had always been told that if a motor doesn't get it's full amount of energy there might be a risk of burn out, because it is getting less energy to do the same amount of work causing wear and tare ..... will that be a problem?

I used a motor from the English Ford Mondeo Mk2,if you get a variable bench power supply of say 5-15v with a 10 amp output you will be fine .Variable supplies are often used in Radio engineering workshops and the variable voltage allows you to work on Hand portable kit that runs at about 5-7v and vehicle kit that runs on 13.5v (saves having numerous power supplies) I would advise you getting a supply that is controlled from the front panel ,as you would have problems ,say with attempting to control the output voltage of a 13.5v power supply with some form of variable resistor.so long as you have the amperage you will not get a burn out as the motor can pull enough current to operate more slowly,on a w/s/w motor there will be a multi way plug,its best to get that plug along with the motor,when you buy it get the guy to cut it out with a pair of side cutters and leave about 6 inches of the loom on it so you are able to connect up to it without any messing around.
If you get one let me know and i will give you an idea on how to connect it all up .
I would advise you to look for one that has the longest first arm (the one attached to the motor) as the length of that arm will determine the height of the lift of your column (IE a 6 inch arm will give you a 12 inch raise ) The one i had built has an 8 inch first arm so the lift raises 16 inches.
