Heyo! I wanted to know where I can get a lantern for my Tardis build. It would have to be full scale and be able to hold a light bulb. I would have to be able to buy it in the US. Any Suggestions?

Hey, greenhat2000! Which model of TARDIS are you building? That would determine which lamp you would need for the roof.

If you're going for a New Series TARDIS, the Series 1-4 lamp is available here:
http://www.amazon.com/Everlasting-10-24-Black-Lantern-Candle/dp/B004EBT7A0/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1389483435&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=Everlasting+Glow+7.87%22+x+10.24%22+Metal+and+Resin+Round+Lantern%2C+LED+Candle+with+Timer%2C+Assorted+Colors
You will have to modify the top, though, so it looks like the ones in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=4258.0 part of our http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=49.0 Reference Section.

If you're going for the Series 5-6 version, then this one should work:

And you'll have to modify the top to look like this one:

There are other images of that one posted somewhere around here, but I can't find them at the moment. The Vermont Lantern linked above is about the right size (diameter) for the Series 5-6 lamp - height-wise I think the lamp cap will take care of that.

The Series 7a onward lamp is hard to find in the US. If you can find it available in the UK I would ask for one of our members to help you get it to the States because those companies selling them don't ship to the US, and you'll still need to modify the cap so you end up with something that looks like this:

This one is called the New Haven style lamp.

But if you're going for one of the Classic TARDISes, then this "chimney", as they call it, will work well for the original Brachacki TARDIS, and also the Newbery and Yardley-Jones models. (http://www.vermontlanterns.com/content/anchor-lamp-chimney-19 - and while not a "Fresnel lens proper" it is a good facsimile. A real Fresnel lens will be difficult to find, and will cost more than one of the lamps suggested here if you can find one.)

The Season 2 (1964) through to the end of the Brachacki-Altered TARDIS (ca. 1976) just had a frosted cylinder inside the lamp struts rather than the Fresnel lens of the Brachacki Original or the Brachacki-Altered's successors.

(The Hudolin lamp from the TARDIS in the 1996 TV Movie is harder to come by - harder than the New Haven lamp, and I'll let someone else field that one.)

I hope this helps.

Moved this Topic to the TARDIS Workshop Lamp section, where it's likely to be seen by more people since the Police Box section is by default hidden from update alerts.

The right lamp hardware (for both TARDISes and Police Boxes) has always been a bit hard to come by depending on where you are located, so good luck!

Thanks for the help Dino!

You're more than welcome, greenhat! I really hope one of those works out for you.
