First time all of the pieces are put together in it's first "dry" run (it unexpectedly rained during assembly!).  Obviously there is still a ton of work to do, so you'll spot stuff that's still outstanding.  But seeing the thing put together really did give me a sense of achievement.

While putting it together, the twisted column I discovered made it harder to attach the sign boxes and the twisting to get it into position has caused small split in the base where the pegs are attached - nothing major, but it will need repairing and looking at to ensure it doesn't happen again.

The frame and panel method really did pay off - the inside on the pic above is exactly as I'd like it.  Was really keen to avoid just having a solid ply wall on the inside.  The two diagonal pieces of scrap wood are just temporary to push the wall into the columns as the walls had a very slight twist (the joys of working with wood).  These will be attached with something more elegant when it's finally put together!

Still need to install the lip between the roof and the sign boxes, but was able to take some accurate measurements of the gap.  Also need to give some thought on how to attach the roof to the rest of the structure, so will give that some thought in the coming days.

And just to make sure it's in proportion to the real thing - I did a side by side of the pic I took at BBC Birmingham.

Ah, I didn't know this and the doors already made! Hopefully they don't look too much out of proportion, don't fancy buying more timber!

Have been working on the jambs for the windows.

all that matters is that you're happy with your tardis. builds often evolves and all, i was just pointing out that fact in case it could help. but in the end, what i see is absolutly fantastic :)

Started build on the window frames.  I'd taken the decision early in the build that I wanted the style of the box to be that of the Capaldi era - which I understand the window frames are made from 16mm material rather than the 10mm for the earlier new series boxes.  So have picked 16mm material for my build.

When installed into the walls/doors, I glued them against the window jambs I'd earlier installed.  I'd made sure the jambs where just narrow enough to leave a lip on the back side of the frame, so that I can install the glass nicely.

Also installed the spines on the roof to give it a bit more strength.

It's a thing of beauty! So wonderful to see the actual craft involved.

That's the neat thing about this board:  You get to see the different techniques and levels of skill used in builds.
That's 2 of the neat things about this board:  You get to see the different techniques and levels of skill used in builds and learn important details about the props your working on.  THREE!  That's the THREE neat things about this board...Right, I'll come in again.  NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!!

After hiding it away during the winter months, finally got it back out this weekend on the first sunny (non-windy) day of the year.  Since this was last put together, it has had a ton of minor work, so it was good to see this all coming together.

Amongst the work done over the winter, I have installed the window frames; bottom architrave on the sign boxes; made lots of adjustments to the walls; notched the centre strip on the walls to fit in with the new upper architrave; fixed a break on the base; etc.

Also, installed two blocks behind the front door architraves for the door hinges.  I didn't want to install these directly on the posts, since the post is only 20mm thick it didn't give the hinge screws much purchase, and also because the pin part of the hinge is wider, so it can't be installed flush.  These blocks will help resolve that.  It will mean the doors need trimming down by the same amount - but this will be behind the architrave so won't affect the final look.

Also created the T-piece door jam for the front door.

Getting closer to sealing this thing and painting it!

I've got to get a proper phone door sign printed up. My previous Tardis just had it printed on a sheet of A4 but that'll be too small for the new, full-sized, one. Where did you get yours done, at a local signwriters or through the interwebz? Do we have any CAD files on here that can be sent to a signwriters to get the 'correct' size/shape/font/words etc (understanding that the panel sizes vary from one TARDIS to the next)?

I used a website called Pixartprinting.  I found the signs from this forum: https://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=791.msg137389#msg137389

Looking great! Can't wait to see it finished.
