Well here's todays update.
Started joining light boxes to poles to check measurements and squareness, ended up almost assembling it all.
I've included some detail of the top of the posts for those who have asked, it shows a notched area I plan to rest the roof on. Tomorrow the plan is to paint as much as possible, mark what pole joins what hole and deassemble for storage until I build a platform for it to live properly in the garden.

Enjoy the pics.    Shane

Shane this looks very nice indeed. Brilliant idea with the signs & posts fitting through the roof alignment.  And your routered  posts look terrific as well. Cant wait to see more photos. What type of wood are you using? It looks lovely and clean.
These are solid posts are they not? They look heavy.  And another thing... big isn't it, believe me I know.

That is gonna be a handsome box.  So would this make this box the 4th full size new series TARDIS built on this forum?

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Chris - The poles are LOSP pine, graded for external use, it's what they make pergollas out of.
I wanted to make the whole project as modular as possible, and I was always weight aware, so the roof
weight will be transfered through the poles and supported by the sections of the light boxes carrying through to the interior.

Anyway I've just got up on a sunny sunday and a painting I will go....

Cheers - Shane

A bit hot today (40+C degrees) to do the painting so I assembled the poles onto the base and painted what I could.
Chris you are right it is heavy and big!!  I'm over six foot and I feel dwarfed, still I think this is better than building the 70's TARDIS, which came in almost 1-2 foot shorter.

Anyway here are more pictures:

Test fit looks great! How do you have the posts attached to the base?

As for dwarfing, I know what you mean, I am 6'2 and whenever I step in front of the thing its huge!

I am really enjoying watching your build, its far more precise than mine was and its looking excellent!

Thanks Primrodo
The poles are just positioned with the lower beams bolted to the base, then the beams above them wil be bolted to them.
Due to the weight of the thing this might do, I may put some L shape brackets on when I assemble it completeley.
The weight of the thing can cause and solve issues.

Here are some more images from a relocation into the garden.

nice looking build. looks very solid. on my build i didn't attach the posts to the base, the weight of everything holds it in place (ok maybe i got a little lazy towards the end) you certianly have good building skills you cuts look nice and smooth. i'm looking forward to see ing more of your progress

Just add the post caps and you're done (with the roof)!  Now off to the sides and doors!  It looks like a pretty beast so far.

Cheers Bill

The post caps are traditionally the last item to be added, so who am I to break with tradition...

We have a very hot summer going on at the moment, the TARDIS has had to endure 40+ degrees 3 times in
the last week, so far so good, no major weather cracking. It is yet to survive it's first rain / storm.

Anyway till the next update - Shane
