why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.

I've seen a toy like that when I was young.

What got me with the landing of that ship was that it has landing supports underneath it, yet it landed on its exhaust outlets where there are no landing supports. That just didn't make sense. Still doesn't!

I believe that the Adjudicator's 'ship' was originally one of the Angels' aeroplanes from Gerry Anderson's "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" which was slightly re-dressed/altered for "Colony in Space".

So, it's entirely possible that Chris is remembering a toy version of this aircraft:
