why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

How useful are these? What do they convey?

Well, the last thing noted for each episode is the transmission spool number (the master tape). Check your attics and cellars folks for roughly 12" diameter, 2" tall, circular tin cans, if you find one with a matching number, you might have found a missing episode!  ;D

So these are reletively useless for tracking the movements of props/actors/staff.

These are editing notes? Is that the basic description/idea? Obvious the inclusion of musical scores needed and the nessesity of having the correct opening and ending titles to be played into the studio at the beginning of recording and such?

No, I don't think so. For readers outside the UK, other TV shows and their transmission times are mentioned such as Grandstand (coverage of live sports events, results and commentaries), The Black & White Minstrel Show (light entertainment, primarily music and dance), Dad's Army (classic comedy about the Home Guard set in WWII), etc.

These documents seem to be a summary of BBC1's output for Saturdays and list the principal participants/inputs in each of those programmes including music, actors, commentators, news readers, the film (type and length) used, video tape, etc, etc.

From 1963 onwards the BBC used something called a PROGRAMME-AS-BROADCAST sheet. This was a daily log of programmes broadcast on the BBC television and radio services, listing the programmes, films and presentation announcements (including trailers and transmission breakdowns) in chronological order.

I think this is what we are seeing here.

(Interestingly, they  also list the actors who have non-speaking/walk-on parts which is something the closing credits of Doctor Who and other programmes don't usually do).
