Last Christmas (2018) Thomas said that he was definitely getting a Tardis, as he'd written a nice letter to Santa asking for one.

At short notice Santa turned his bedroom wardrobe doors into this..

..And look..  Digger On The Inside!

Later we made a cardboard console to sit on a little table.   Thomas drew some controls and we made levers with the hot glue gun and old work pencils for the pivots!

The wood bit is also a lever to made the Time Rotor go up and down!

Popped it in the Oak Tardis earlier for a pic.

Going to have to put shelves in it soon so it can start to become the promised 'useful' piece of furniture!

Woo Hoo..  A proper actual update!

Yesterday afternoon - went on an expedition for wood for the shelves, in the depths of the back of the garage..

188-FoundWood.JPG

Cut things to size and planed up the oak.   (Including bits for the 'bolts' for the lamp assembly.)

189-WoodCutUp.JPG

Glued front edgings on and did cut outs for where the oak trunking is.

190-CrampEdgesOn.JPG

Then gave them a coat of Osmo Oil before I came in.

And this shelf has a dog leg in it for where the phone box is.

191-OsmoOil.JPG

Also gave the lamp a coat of Osmo.  It wasn't originally redone after assembly.

Not sure if I will have time today to get things installed..  we'll see.

Cheers

Managed to get back in the workshop later in the afternoon yesterday.

Doing the 'bolts' for the lamp assembly.

I know I've said this before - the actual Tardis lamp has three bolts.  But its difficult to create the illusion of three bolts with mirrors..  Well.. unless I twisted the lamp a bit and mirrored 1 1/2 dowels. But I'd rather have things looking symmetrical from the front.

So going with the illusion of four bolts.

Made the dowel for the 'bolts' first.

193-Dowels.JPG

Then to get the 'bolts' in the right place I marked out a template.

194-MarkingOut.JPG

And cut it out.

195-Template.JPG

And then used it to mark the centres.

196-Drilling.JPG

Used a square lath first to get angle and length right.

197-Pattern.JPG

Then cut and fixed the 'bolts' in and gave it another coat of Osmo Oil.

If I have time when I get back in I'll maybe fit the shelves.

A few weeks ago, with Dr Who's imminent return to TV, I sent the pic into the local newspaper..

And we're in this week!

I did think about doing a different photo with better lighting.. but that would have meant tidying up in here!

Beware though... fame can be a seductive mistress..... ;)

I'm afraid that this is all I can come up with at short notice!

Ooh cheeky  ;D

Technically, two of them, though only one is clearly visible!  ;)

Imagine having to explain that one to the kids!  :o

As the 10th Doctor said towards the end.. "I don't want to go.."    But I'm quickly running out of updates!

The shelf update can wait for another day.   Though I have made oak pellets to fill the holes on the mirror frame.

201-WoodPellets.jpg

But I've not put them in.. so I can still say we're still not finished yet!

Meanwhile.. a bit of a Tardis-Cutaway again today.

Went to Bradgate Park in Leicester.    Great place to go for a walk.

[And this is how bases for wood Police Boxes (and garden sheds) should be.
A bit smaller than the box, with the drip wider so that water drips onto the ground, so it doesn't run underneath, rotting your bottom off!]

Same glass as I found for my box.

And a pic through the trees from the top of the nearby hilly bit.

You know, I came to this same annoying conclusion late year when I started replacing the bottom fascia on my box (I'm about 7/8ths of the way through that job before the weather got too cold and damp) I've put it on my ever-growing list of things I would do differently next time I build a TARDIS... :D

I gave the 'spare half' of the lamp assembly a coat of oil on Friday.    It can be a book end!

202-FresnelBookend.JPG

Haven't put the 'bolts' this half though. .. I'll maybe think about it.. one day!

On our little Police Box tour we went to see Scarborough yesterday.  Looks like its been repaired in the last few months.  Windows look new.

I may be in this picture too!

And here is the Lamp on the Oak Tardis in position with 'bolts' in place.

Angelus Lupus

I say it again, because it's true - even in the new pictures: Illusion still works even when you know the mirror is there!
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

russellsuthern

I love Scarborough!!!

So glad to see the box looking good!

Russell
