Hi guys,

Over the past few weeks, I've been making some Classic Sonic Screwdrivers out of metal. I've not used a lathe to make them, I've just used components I've had at home or have picked up cheap. I've made three sonics, 3rd, 4th and 5th, and in total, they've cost me £2.45 to make

The handle sections were made using Tube or two curtain rail brackets that I bought for £2 and cut down. They were capped off with watch backs which were the right size. On two of the sonics, a kitting needle formed the main stem of the sonic, and the other was an old aerial. The cone shaped part at the top of the sonic was made using an old set of sockets which I had, I used my bench grinder to shape them, and a dremel to bore out the middle. I used some smaller ones for the middle of the emitter halos, and they were capped with a metal button, which cost me 15p each. The emitter halos were made using plumbing olives which I already had. I used electrical tape on the 3rd Doctor sonic and on the activation ring on the 5th. The emitters were painted with paint I had in the cupboard, and I forced these to dry.

Theyre all spring loaded, and they're not perfect, but they do look like they've been used and feel a lot more realistic than their toy counterparts

Love the look of these! Great work! Also, you are so right about them looking better than their toy counterparts. What kind of adhesive are you using? I'm assuming not all of this is solid mechanical connections and must have some sort of glue. Love it!

Jarenelo, you'd be right, just superglue and hot glue

Great work! I use a lot of cyanoacrylate these days. It's like revved up superglue and uses a UV light to cure. If you see that around, give it a shot. As far as hot glue goes, that's an awesome choice. I had to switch to a high temp glue gun, as I find it holds much better. Your sonics have a great worn in look about them. I find that much more believable as something the Doctor has carried for a few hundred or more years.
