To be honest, there's not a lot in the way of controls on the console. The Time Rotor does move up and down, and there are strips of EL wire on the dividers which light up when the levers are pulled down

I'm still not too sure what I think of it

And so it begins.

Welcome to an everlasting examination of every nook and cranny of this particular console that will consume us here for the rest of Jodie's tenure and beyond.

Good luck all.

Yes, a very brief shot from the behind-the-scenes video shows it moving up and down.

The archway is reminiscent of the original series with the jagged edges, a nice detail to add.
I want notes, lists and answers by the time I finish this here Juicy-a-Box! WARNING: I am Thirst-ay! And it is Fruit Punch! And it is Delicious!"

I love that they've integrated the exterior into the interior with it being three walls and the entire Police Box sign section showing a non-reversed signage. The console looks like 2010, but better.

non-reversed signage

This is the one bit that makes no sense to me.
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

Checking the screen caps again, we're seeing the REAR sign of the TARDIS not the reverse of the front one.  So it makes sense that we can read it, and in fact there are no signs visible inside the "porch" area.  How you can be outside of the box to see the rear sign but not the rear wall I don't know.  Trans-dimensional engineering was never my thing at school though...

I don't think it makes sense to see any of the outside of the box when you're inside it.....

Yes that worried me for a second, until I realised what I was seeing.  At first I thought they'd screwed up royally, the way the Motel sign's reflection is still reversed in "The Lost Room" when you're looking at the window of Room 10 from the outside (those of you who've seen it will understand what I mean).

Also anyone else think for a moment when she walked through the door that we were going to get a "Father's Day" scenario with the inside of the box empty?

It's a brave move, because I don't think the entry of the TARDIS has ever been portrayed like this before, not even in comics.  If nothing else, it's going to make an  actual home-built console room much more accurate, now you can really have the box on the outside and entry through the "4th wall".

deafeningsilence

That is a LOT of empty console space. Arwel Jones said it was very "tactile", but I'm sorry to say I'm not seeing much in the way of it. It's too...barebones. Like they stripped the Tennant Console to the absolute bare minimum and decided to use that.

russellsuthern

I think it ruins the illusion.

I don't mind seeing the inside of the doors, a la the Peter Cushing movies etc, but the whole box?

It just looks like the interior is stuck on to the side of the box, rather than being jammed into it.

But you are right- fan builds will be able to have greater accuracy now!! ;D

Cheers,

Russell

I completely agree with you Deafeningsilence, I don't understand why it's got hardly any controls, especially when there are panels that have tiny bits of junk in them, but they're nothing to use as a physical control...
