... continuing on  ;D  ...

As you can see, the door actually looks pretty good, and works really well. I'm not over-the-moon about that gap, and I did VERY slightly mis-align the hinges with the gluing (one door is slightly more left than the other, by about 1mm), but in overall terms, things line up and operate as they're supposed to. I stuck on the last of the panels, reassembled, and... you know what, we've pretty well finished the damn thing!  :D

Now, there are a few other things left to do; I need to work out how to get those door bar things affixed (still working on it), the hinge-pivots will need to be machined down so they don't protrude (have a plan in the works for that), the panel adornments will need to be more permanently attached to the hull (Davros Skaro gave me the solution for that - double sided tape. Now I just need to get some), and possibly a few cosmetic adjustments here and there. Aside from that though, it's done! Time for the reveal...

... I think this has worked out rather well. What does Bob think...?

...*grudgingly* "Ok... I'm gonna give it to you, but only because I'm a nice murderous hate machine"...

Sophie and Sylvester...?

... "bit snug, but it'll do in a pinch... no pun intended"...  ::)

So, ultimately, how will this look in a diorama...?

... This has worked out better than I had hoped for, and I learned a lot from the process as well, even though I've already had a fair amount of experience with this type of model creation already; let's just hope some of it sticks!  ::) One other thing I've realised. This isn't going to work just sitting on a glass shelf, and I can't suspend it from the ceiling. This thing needs a pedestal of some kind. Need to work out how I'm going to manage THAT as well.

There may be a few small updates from here on out, but essentially we're done. If I ever build the next iteration, I'll start a new build diary for it. In the meantime, enjoy! :)

You have done really well with this build...
Any other projects in the pipeline?

Davros Skaro

This has turned out absolutely brilliant! Job well done & a lot learned on the way. Doesn't matter how much we plan things out we seem to forget something (I know I do & make mistakes), but you seem to have gotten 98% of it right, & you can't always be blamed for material faults or printer mess ups. Extremely well done in my books.

Well the finished look works well with all the characters in place too!

QuoteOne other thing I've realized. This isn't going to work just sitting on a glass shelf, and I can't suspend it from the ceiling. This thing needs a pedestal of some kind. Need to work out how I'm going to manage THAT as well.

Let us know what you end up doing here, would be interested to know!

So, I thought a small-ish update might be the best way to answer the questions.

First off, thanks guys, much appreciated. These things are very much a labour-of-love, and I do sometimes ask myself why I commit to them (because I'm MAD that's why, mWAHAHAHAHAHAHA... ahem!), and often wonder about the end results, but then everybody says really nice things, and I feel inspired to try again or try new things. So thank you, very, very much! :) :)

Now, to where I'm going to display it. I originally thought glass pedestal or plinth; it needs to be at a reasonable height to view it, and it kind of needs to either look like it's flying, or just not too much "noise" around it, so it stands out. I have pretty much the entirety of my 1/13th / 5" range on glass shelves, which works really well. Unfortunately, none of the shelves are big enough for the ship! As to the plinth or pedestal, I realised that it would probably end up being a bit unstable. I wondered if I had anything around the house that might work. And then I remembered I had this...

... bought this not long after I moved into the house. I needed a large enough display case for what you see inside, but something that was going to be relatively useful as well. It's basically a display  / coffee table. And it was currently sitting in my bedroom. Time to move things around...

... this is my main living area (you can see the Dalek Ship on the table I assembled it on in the background of the second image). That large, glass coffee table is am item that I've been meaning to get rid of for some time and haven't gotten around to; it's too big to keep here, and I really don't have a need for it. It's sitting where it currently is as a spot to dump things that either need re-homing or chucking out, and also because there really hasn't been anywhere else to put it...

P1030775.jpg    P1030776.jpg

... except, I found a spot. Yes, on the left of the first image is *some* of my 5" collection. This is AV room (needs finishing), and the second shot is where I intend to put that glass table; behind the theatre lounge!  ;D ...

... after I move some stuff out of the way first. Moving things around is always a juggling act. anyway...

P1030783.jpg    P1030782.jpg

... it all went behind fairly nicely, was even able to put the other stuff back once done. And yes, the chairs on the theatre lounge could recline, and still can now with the addition of a large glass coffee table behind...

... and the new display...

... works well methinks! The rebel Daleks were returned to their place in the collection...

... which kind of brings me to the next question: what project is next? Well, I COULD model another TARDIS interior (have had a mind to do the Brachaki version, or a Rani, or Matt Smith's second console room, or the Movie version (that'll be tricky!)), but I have a fair few console rooms now, 4 which I've modelled myself...

... 1 which I purchased from another model-maker (before I got into it myself...

... and 2 CO versions from the new series...

P1030809.jpg    P1030810.jpg

... I actually have a verrrrrry extensive Dalek collection...

P1030794.jpg    P1030795.jpg

... soooo... I'm more thinking that I should probably enhance it further.. y'know, so it's not just ALL Dalek (and yes, this was as much to show off my collection as it was to show you how I was thinking). A Dalek saucer was tempting, but I'd never get it to scale! Those little attack ships the Daleks fly around in in "Day of the Doctor" might be cool, but a bit fiddly. At the moment, I'm thinking.... Emperor Dalek! The 2005 version from Parting of the Ways was one I've had in mind for a while, but some of those parts might be tricky, I think I'm going to try my hand at an Evil of the Daleks Emperor Dalek... ;) I'll add an update here when I get started... :)  ;D

That's a big collection you have there. Very impressive!

Nice set of photos.

I particularly like the one of the bin bag behind the sofa... ;)

:D hahahaha, yeeeeeah... there's 2 of em actually, full of old clothes that are meant to go in a Samaritans bin...  ::)  another thing I haven't go around to yet.  ;D  And you still haven't seen the whole collection either... ;)

Thanks again... :)

I personally don't think you have enough daleks :P

:o ... Really? I honestly don't know what to say to that! Lol! I'll go with "maybe you're right"...  :D

P1030817 copy.jpg

... not counting these guys...

P1030816 copy.jpg    P1030814 copy.jpg    P1030815 copy.jpg

... I do have these as well... ;)

Personally, I don't think I have enough Cybermen...

P1030811 copy.jpg

P1030812 copy.jpg

P1030813 copy.jpg

... certainly, not nearly enough to wage a battle with the Daleks... ;)

Just occurred to me; I could model a Cyber-Ship perhaps...? Could use a vote on this: Emperor Dalek or Cyber-Ship?

WOW! That's one heck of a collection of figures, makes mine look small, but then on a pension & no real access to Doctor Who merchandise, makes it hard.

You could do a scaled down Dalek or Cyberman ship, they don't have to be to a large scale, then they would fit on your shelves or hung to look like they're in the distance in space.

What ever you decide to do, be sure to put up a build post for us to follow!  :) :D :)

... the 5" range has all but stopped being produced, aside from a few figures once per year or every couple of years; makes it a bit easier to collect. But I understand exactly where you're coming from because I'm more or less in the same boat. Most of this collection was obtained while I still had a job, prior to my accident. One of the reasons I'm now back at uni. Long story. There's some new figures due out in a few months that, if I can't find work, I'm not going to be able to afford. Food is more important ;) My 15 year old son, who is at the age where he eats like a horse, and is also a mad Whovian, thinks so as well...  ;)

Most of my collection came from online sources, very little in the way of locally obtainable stuff for me as well, although there was some. But it was, pound for pound, cheaper to get them online from overseas anyway. I did have a supplier at one stage who had some in-roads,  ::) and was able to obtain figures without packaging, rarities, rejects, etc. I bought in bulk from him for a time (again while I still had a job; this was probably about 8-10 years ago), which built my collection significantly, quickly, and very cheaply. Got a few items in my collection from him that you can't get from main stream sources. I was very, very lucky...

I guess I could do scaled down versions, but I really don't want to; I like enhancing the 5" range I have with things that weren't or aren't going to be released. There is a Cyber-Ship from Revenge of the Cybermen which isn't TOO large, although it would be the largest model I've done. There is the Mondasian landing craft from The Tenth Planet which is probably of a do-able size and shape, but might be a little boring. Or, the landing craft from Silver Nemesis perhaps...? :) In any case, if I start down a road of making everything at whatever size / scale, I could be at this for a lifetime! I had an idea though that, maybe, I could make Bessie...? or the Whomobile...  ;D

... I also may or may not have, hijacked my own thread with a discussion about merchandise. Apologies to the moderators... *looks sheepish*

So, in answer to the question: "... any other projects in the works?"... I HAVE been tinkering with a few things over the course of... well... since I last posted here. On and off, that is. I will be commencing a few topics over the course of the next few days, detailing a few of the things I have been working on:

1) Working alongside Tony Farrell with 3D modelling for his Kenneth Sharp Console project.

2) Emperor Dalek model from the 1967 serial "Evil of the Daleks".

3) Another TARDIS console model, inspired by the 7th Doctor comic adventures, and other TARDIS modellers.

Here's a taste of things to come... ;)

Moderators: advice on where to start these various threads would be much appreciated  ;D pretty please! :) please note. the Sharp Console is 3D models and renders, the other 2 are currently 3D models but will become in the course of the thread, actual 3D printed models.

Watch this.... errrrrr.... actually some other space; will post the topic links here once they are started.

I've always had a soft spot for the original Emperor Dalek - I'm old enough to have watched "Evil" when it was transmitted and remember us kids playing "Dizzy Daleks" in the school playground on the Monday after transmission!  :)

I'm glad you put the photos I sent you to such good use. I hope we'll be seeing the Emperor in his 'throne room', perhaps surrounded by his black-domed Dalek guards......... Go on Dan, you know you want to really!  ;)

I'm so very, very late to this thread - but bravo! I'd like to build a model shuttle as well albeit with acrylic and styrene bits.
