A few weeks back now, Mrs. Scarfwearer looked at me and said:

"You've been working late a lot. Are you planning another project?"
"Yes."
"What this time?"
"Another Tardis."

She could have said:
"What do you need another Tardis for? You already have two!"

She could have said:
"You haven't even finished putting the console room back together, let alone the upstairs bathroom!"

She could even have said:

"You're completely mad!"

She just smiled and said:

"Where will you put it?"

They're all good questions, and I think the answer to all of them is basically the same: It'll be fun!
This time maybe if I start in May it'll be done before the weather is too cold (ha!).

Where will I put it? -- It'll be fun!
Yeah, that works.

So without further ado, here's the first build diary picture:

I ordered some mouldings online. They were supposed to be delivered yesterday, but we're hard to find, so I met the delivery driver near a local landmark. He was very grateful.

Following that, I bought some timber to get me started:

So it begins...

Well I woke up this morning... and the sun was shining.

I'm not an early riser usually, so I didn't get out to the workshop until after lunch.
I set up the chop saw outside:

... and found a table to work on:

This Tardis will have beveled panels, so I did a lot of beveling on the table saw in the workshop.

I cut some windows in a piece of plywood - a little larger than the rails and stiles leave exposed:

I did this with the hand-held circular saw and finished the corners with a handsaw.

I cut the window panes out of the plywood board in the same way I did with my previous build: using the chop saw to cut straight and finishing the corners with the jigsaw.

I screwed the windows back into the back of the wall stiles and rails.
And here is the result:

It's all held together with screws from the back, so is eminently adjustable.

I think that all took about 5 hours. If I had nothing else to do this might be a quick build. So it probably won't be... :)

Good grief! No flies on you Steve!
Yes. It's a Newbery.
I like to do unusual things - walk the path less traveled. It seems like there aren't so many Newbery builds, so I thought I'd have a crack at it.

So, Is this a Newbery?  ;D

As soon as he said bevelled, that was my thought :D

Which era, Crispin?  :D
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

What sort of question is that to ask a Scarfwearer? It's a time machine! ;)

:D

I'm now guessing it's going to be all eras like your Brachacki box :)

That's not bad going for five hours work, Crispin...

It's almost like the old Blue Peter line "and here's one I made earlier"! ;D
Fantastic! Can't wait to see how this goes! I fully except a family picture of all 3 when you're done! ;)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

It would certainly continue the theme. I think it looked better with the taller roof and new sign boxes, but it was only like that for a couple of stories after the end of it's proper reign. I can't promise to capture every change, but I'll try to do the major ones.

The great thing about working outside is you can't hear the phone... :)

russellsuthern

Brilliant work as usual. :D

Aaahhh.... the Newbery....

It may not be everybody's favourite TARDIS, but thinking of it sure does conjure up some wonderful images of some fantastic adventures....

Happy times & places....

Best regards,

Russell

Angelus Lupus

I suppose the next obvious question is: With, or without a rear wall?
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

Scarfwearer

And I think the answer is probably: 'Yes' ;)

I expect an alternative pair of doors will hang there some of the time.

Cardinal Hordriss

This is coming along quickly. For a moment I wondered if you'd caved and decided to build my box for me after all lol.
I speak to you from the final days of Gallifrey. I am the past you have forgotten. You are the future I will not live to see...

Well I managed to get a couple of hours in the workshop, after a busy few days elsewhere, and roughed out two posts:

I'll need to dismantle them a little to make space for the various mountings, but it's progress...
