Just out of curiosity, has anyone got a solution to the problem of making the Tardis sound?  Preferably cheap and cheerful! it's gonna be a playhouse type object for my son and he wants it to make the Vwoooooorp Vwoooooorp noise.

USB HUB TARDIS (useless as a usb hub) £15 but a penny

Even if you take it apart just for the audio wizardry

Maybe a cheap CD player and some speakers attached to the inside of the box, by the corner post/sign box connections.

Don't know exactly how you'd go about making a device but there is such a thing as a recordable microchip, seen them in Maplin catalogue.

Maybe that could be an option as it would take up less room and no moving parts?

the chip sounds like a pretty good idea... i dont think it would take too much programming or engineering to connect it up so that the lights dim/flash in the lamp in time to the noise.

It might be easier/cheaper to disassemble an MP3 player.  Since we're just talking about a short sound effect, even the smallest player will have enough memory.

i just have a CD player in my build ( Timelordr101's box ) for simplicity sake this is the best option, but i then went on to build a proper sound rig, basically comprising of CD Player, Amp and Speakers, with added ear guards

a few years ago i tried recreating the tardis sound effect using an old piano and a door key i recorded the sound but never got round to finishing the blasted thing but have got it stored in my mobile.
But it was just a police box !
