Hi,
Take a look at the homepage of this transport and classic car collection charity.
They say they have an original BBC TARDIS police box from Doctor Who.
Could this be the Newbery Box?

Best wishes all.

Hard to say without (clear) images - unless any of our esteemed Tardis historians know the whereabouts of the Newbery?
Mind you, if everyone who said they had "an original Tardis from Doctor Who" actually did... there'd probably be as many as there are builds on here!

It would be great if it was the Newbury (even though I hate it lol)

However, I suspect it's probably just a new series one as it doesnt say its from the original/classic series, just that its an original box!

I imagine now the experience has closed the BBC have quite a few going spare!

I got wind of this about six months ago - and certainly Andrew Beech (owner of the first TY-J Tardis) has publicly suggested that the Patrick Collection is the current owner of the Newbery Box.

A few months ago, I did suggest to our very own Steve/Fivefingeredstyre that he might want to visit the Patrick Collection as he has a keen interest in (vintage) cars (and Tardises).  :)

I don't know if we have any members in the Birmingham area that might want to pay the Collection a visit? I gather that viewings are by appointment only.

This is what the Newbery Box looked like at her last public outing at Longleat in 1983:

And, for comparison, the best extract I can get from the Patrick Collection's homepage video (which can hardly be described as conclusive):

I've sent them an email asking if they wouldn't mind kindly sharing any details/photos of the box!

I'll post back as soon as (or if) I hear anything back :-)

There was a long discussion about this on Twitter by Clayton Hickman about a year ago. I can't find it at the moment. They concluded that it was a box built by the BBC for an open air exhibition in the 80's. There were photos of the box being exhibited and slightly better photos of the box in the mueseum.

Ah, no, I remember that conversation: I pointed out that that particular box was the one which had been built (along with several Daleks and K9) for the Liverpool Garden Festival in 1984. The "Liverpool Box" is now in a car showroom in Worcestershire.

Naturally I sent them an email when I saw their claim to display an original BBC Tardis, just before I posted news of my findings on here.
I guess soon they'll be inundated with emails about it. .. LOL
Hope you're well mate.

Yes, the photos you posted are of the Liverpool Garden Festival Box - as I say, the last time I heard of it, it was in a car showroom in Worcestershire.

Hopefully, the Patrick Collection will reply to your's and The Watcher's e-mails.

Long time, no speak Mark; I hope you are well?

Ah yes, that's the one Mark & Tony, memory almost got me to the right place!

Talking of which, I remember reading a report about the 20th Anniversary Longleat event that said that the Newberry Box was auctioned off there, but I've never seen it mentioned since. Could the Patrick Muesum have bought it then?

The only place I could have read that must have been DWM, as I didn't join DWAS until 1984, so couldn't have read it in CT.  Anyone got the issue with the Longleat report? I think it had a colour pic of Hartnell on the cover holding a fan (from Marco Polo?).

Will be interesting to see what the collection replies  with.  Otherwise, maybe it's time for a Tardis Builders road trip!?

Birmingham area you say? Yes that's me! Ready and willing to be an investigator if necessary!
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Had an email back this morning!

Dear Mr Miller,

Many thanks for the enquiry.  I don't have any pictures to hand, but will try and visit the museum in the next day or two and take a couple of pictures.  I will try emailing them through to you.

Our TARDIS was bought during the first (I think) national Children in Need campaign.  My Uncle heard it being discussed on BBC radio and called making the offer to purchase.  We have had it in the museum ever since.

Best regards,
Julian.

So there you go  :)
Any idea which box this is then?

First Children in Need telethon was broadcast in 1980, if that helps.
