Looks like a model to me.  Nothing I can put my finger on, but the wood grain seems too deliberate and the handles seem a bit...I dunno.  Of course I could be wrong.  And I know I've seen plenty of pictures of real things that look like toys--like real cars that look like Hot Wheels cars--because of photography technique.

I doubt its a model - Remember, Lighting, Special Effects and Image adjustments added to the picture to make it more awesome looking.

Yeah, I was going to say something like that. It wouldn't be the first time someone's been a little too... over-enthusiastic with the photoshop filters for a promo image.

Aye, it's the full size prop, photographed at the start of production.

It's like the costume reveal over again - I spent ages thinking it was a CG render of the new TARDIS rather than a photo of the actual prop, but then discovered it was a photo!

It's hard to see on the magazine cover preview, more obvious on the raw images, but the wood grain matches up identically with that on the prop as photographed on location.

Have to admit, this TARDIS has grown on me massively over the last couple of months!

I for one have fallen in love with the new box - must admit I do miss the St John logo, but I really really like the new design. Its cute :).

Nicely matched! Now let's all obsess over the heretofore unseen details, like the tops of the posts, etc  ;D

It bothers me that the roof pyramid sections don't line up properly.

I think they do, and what your seeing is a combination of shadow, reflection and the glowing effect that's been added to the image.

Also, we can see the box/platform the lamp is on is bevelled very much like the base of the Tardis itself.

(edit to add that the pale line along the edge of the lamp base is my way of showing where the edge is)

Wow, the lamp doesn't even look like part of the box in that pic, it just looks like it's sat on the roof.

Well, no more so than the way the Gardman lamp sat on the Ed Thomas TARDIS in series 1-4, or the anchor lamp on the Ed Thomas Refurb in Series 5-6, or the New Haven-style lamp on the TARDIS from Series 7-10. At least this one doesn't overhang the little mount it sits on like the Gardman and Anchor-style lamps did. And don't forget some of the Classic TARDIS lamps during the later Pertwee era, where it looked like just a small plastic bucket sat on top, and without a cap, too... just some black paint on top with a narrow band below it.

Soo is the PTO sign different font and layout or is it still the same as the previous boxes?

Oh... it's very different! Even more so than any in the Classic Series. It comes close to the late Pertwee/Early Tom Baker era with being a black background with white lettering, but the layout of the words is totally different for the "FREE FOR USE OF PUBLIC" part; even the "OFFICERS & CARS..." wording layout is different than what was used on the previous New Series boxes, and actually looks more like how it did on the Newbery TARDIS. (See the images on the previous page where Jodie Whittaker is standing in front of the prop.)

The font is definitely different for the "POLICE TELEPHONE" and "PULL TO OPEN" wording, but at least it looks like they've used a sans-serif font for the entire sign rather than a mix of sans and serifs. The rest of the wording on the sign does look very similar to what was used on previous versions of the prop.

I take your point that the lamps have been hit and miss in the past. I think it's because they've done so little to alter it so it still looks like an anchor lamp plain and simple.

Quote from: galacticprobe on Feb 26, 2018, 05:59 pmYou really can't go by the windows. The Series 2-4 TARDIS windows were a cool white with a bluish tint, yet the interior was dim amber with a bright greenish glowing console. The Series 6 and 8-10 TARDIS windows were blinding white, yet the interiors were amber-lit, and not super bright.

Which is likely intended to suggest the interior of the Police Box, rather than the Console Room (some key scenes notwithstanding).

It's quite interesting that in a way, it's almost like past and present have come together in a single TARDIS prop design... A box that has the genetics of the TYJ props  and some of the 2005+ props combined.  There's the greater degree of blue in the hue, the proportions of the sign boxes, some of the artex pattern, and the curved doweling on the corners from the 80s props, with the slightly wider proportions, wooden texture, window treatment and lantern of the more recent boxes.

Were they able to justify a build for a single episode appearance, this design would've been quite fitting for the War Doctor's TARDIS. :)

Still, it'll be nice that we'll be seeing plenty of it over the (hopefully) next three years (or more?).
