Does anybody have the Reign Of Terror DVD to give screen caps of the interior in that story? Or make a floor plan of it at least.

The Reign of Terror H 1964 Season 1 Story 8

Pretty sure it's the full console room layout in episode one

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

But in episode 6, the camera never leaves this corner.

It's not quite the full set Marc - instead of the three PBUs, or even two, we only have one. In addition, the scanner down-lighter unit has been split down (as it was designed to be), so that only the left-hand two down-lighters have been used. Somewhat lazily, they haven't even bothered to fit the blanked-off down-lighter which should be in front of and above the scanner - resulting in a void being visible immediately above the TV set and the TV set being hung about a foot higher up than was intended by Brachacki.

The other 'deviation' from the full set is the absence of the Perspex double-width screen to the left of the scanner. Instead one translucent screen and one clear screen (both seen in the Living Quarters for Edge of Destruction/Brink of Disaster) have been used.

So, you have approximately a half sized set used in episode one and - as you say - only the rear-left corner used in the final episode.

So it is the same as the 'Unearthly/Edge' interior but with one PBU instead of three?

No Tigerman - the full-scale set is only seen in Edge of Destruction/Brink of Disaster when it filled two thirds of the entire studio floor space - the control room was over well over forty feet long and nearly as wide (and that doesn't include the bedrooms which ran alongside the main Control Room). If you include the Living Quarters, you've effectively a set which well over forty feet long by sixty feet wide.

The set for An Unearthly Child only utilised about seventy percent of the then available elements; if you include the slightly later addition of the bedrooms, it actually only used about 40% of the full-scale set. It was shorter too because they overlapped the PBUs and hid the overlap behind the lighting column.  And in a shameless 'plug', have a look at http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=4825.0 :)

That's the beauty of a set which was deliberately designed to be modular!

A second blowup wall can be seen to the right of the lighting column:

I believe that this set photo comes from the first episode (although the wooden plinths appear to have been rearranged/removed before recording):

And that this set photo comes from the final episode:

The two photos you post are from Planet of Giants.  :)

The point about the PBUs is that there was one visible between the 3D wall and lighting column rather than the usual two (or three in the case of Edge).

Ah missed that, sorry!

I'd have to disagree here though, this screencap from Planet of Giants 1 shows the 3D wall with wainscoting (and upside down PBU), which doesn't match either photo as they are both lacking the wainscoting at the base of the wall.

However, it does appear to be an exact match for this photo (also note that the armchair is in the correct position here, but absent from the other two photos):

We can also discount Planet of Giants 3 as it has two visible PBUs, with a divider between them:

Excellent spot regarding the wainscoting - I'd completely missed that. Thank you.

I can see that I'll have to reorganise some of my photo folders as a result of your 'eye for detail'!  :)
