I've got light diffusers for florescent office lights for my window panes.  I am going to have the smooth side facing out, and I am thinking about sanding the bumpy side for a "frosty" effect.  Has anyone tried this, Does anyone know if it will work?

If they're the kind of diffusers I'm thinking of, how are going to sand the bumpy bits?  You won't be able to get sandpaper to go into the little cracks.  You might be able to sandblast them I suppose.

I think the people who have sanded their clear plastic just used regular, non-bumpy sheets.  If I were going to try using them, I might sand the smooth side and if I wanted the windows to have a shiny surface out the outside I might use an extra piece of clear plastic on top of the diffusers.

I haven't tried any of this, so ultimately the best thing to do is experiment and post your results!  :D

I just wanted to sand down the bumps, in hopes that the pattern would look a little less uniform.  I guess I just don't want them to be so recognizable as light diffusers.  But your'e right, I guess I'll just have to experiment and see what I come up with.

i was at lowes the other day and i saw some difusers that were way different than the ordinary kind. they look like rocks or something the pattern is very random on them and they also come in white

Was it at all similar to the pebbled glass in police box windows?  If so, I gotta get me some of that!
