Bradley Console room Twice upon a Time

It would be interesting if they did the bits in the Hartnell control room with whatever filter Zack Snyder uses for DC superhero films to make it more monochromatic.  Not actually do the scenes in black & white like "The Wizard of Oz" or something, but to wash out the colors as much as they could without it being jarring.  Which reminds me of an old "Calvin & Hobbes" strip, where Calvin's Dad is explaining that prior to WWII or so the world was in black & white--and that's why photos and films from that era are in black & white.  Calvin asks him why old paintings are in color but I forget what the answer was.

I’ll admit, I’ve been following this thread for a while but felt that I didn’t really have anything to contribute since all the information we have on the new set seems to have been exhausted for now (at least until the episode airs and we get to see it in full.) But I must say I’m surprised at all the criticism coming from many people, and that’s why I feel I need to say something.

To me, we should be glad they even bothered to recreate the set in the first place. Remember The Two Doctors, where all they did was reuse the old Tom Baker console - which looked nothing like the Brachacki console? They didn’t have to build a new set at all - they could have just not shown the First Doctor’s TARDIS - but instead they chose to do so by way of a nice throwback for all the Classic series fans.

I personally think this console looks great, and gives us a glimpse of perhaps how the original set would have looked had the show been started in the 21st century rather than the 60s. As someone rightly mentioned further up the thread, we need to remember that the only reason the prop was painted green was so it would show up as white on the black-and-white cameras.

If I were somebody trying to recreate the “Bradley Console Room”, I would frankly be very disappointed if I had to wade through 4+ pages of discussion about whether or not people actually like the set just to get to the handful of posts that contain any real information about it.

Please don’t take this as a criticism or slight against any of our members, I hope you all know me better than that. I just fear this will turn into another “Bradley Box” thread, where people spend more time tearing strips off the prop instead of discussing what it looks like/how it might have been made/etc.

Kind regards, The14thDr :D

Well said sir, well said.

As regards the knowledge about the recreated Hartnell interior being exhausted, well, it's only a fortnight until transmission so, not long before we see the set in all its glory and, in my view, it is a glorious thing of beauty which the publicity photos don't do justice.

On Friday 23rd June this year I spent the day in the company of a lovely lady and in the company of many of her equally wonderful (and talented) colleagues. In return for some help that I had given them over the previous six or seven weeks, I was granted a rare and genuine privilege but this privilege came with a condition: I was asked to promise her something.....

It's been a long six months since that sunny day in June; the nights have drawn in and it's now a lot colder but I have some very warm memories of that June day. It's been a struggle to keep quiet but, I've kept my promise and - as I agreed - will continue to keep that promise until 25th December 2017 at 7 PM. Tick-tock goes the clock.....

Until then, in the words of River Song: Spoilers sweetie!  ;)

Sorry... But how cool it this picture?  8) 8) 8) 8)

That, Mr White, is quite simply an absolutely atrocious pun - you should be ashamed of yourself and, in the words of The First Doctor, you deserve a "jolly good smacked bottom"!!!!  ;)

Hmm that pebble glass is strangely familiar :)

Angelus Lupus

It sure looks nice to see proper pebbled glass. Also, any/all versions of the Tardis look beautiful with a dusting of snow!

I was going to say the same thing about the picture but I couldn't bear the pun and couldn't think of a better way of saying it.  Very neat to see that iconic box--only not beat up and cobbled together--in glorious HD color.

Is this going to be referred to as the "Bradley Mk2" Box after the "Bradley Mk1" of AAISAT?

tony farrell

Alternatively, it could be named after its designers....
