Couldn't quite work out how to get it to rotate fully with all the lighting running through it via a motor and gear assembly and run it off of a battery as well, as this Tardis needed to be portable, so that my son can take it to Grandmas.

The two traditional approaches, both of which might be impossible given the scale you're working at and the other parts you would need to fit in, are:
1. Have a fixed central light source which the rings rotate around, so the lighting leads don't have to move at all.
2. Use slip rings of some kind: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slip_ring

Best regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the information with regards to the Whirly Gig, I had looked into this as a possibility of managing to light the Whirly Gig and then mechanize it in some way to make it function correctly automatically.
But given the fact that the central spindle from which the Whirly Gig rotates also houses not only the transfer cables for the lights on the Whirly Gig, but also the EL Wires for the Time Rotor, plus the facts that it would need some sort of motor to be housed in the Whirly Gig and be battery operated in order for it to move, whilst keeping the weight in check to allow mobility seemed to be an insurmountable task, especially on a limited budget for what was supposed to be essentially a child's toy.
So in this instance I had to admit defeat in the real world, but still dream of trying to attempt this at a later date, maybe with further investigation, learning, experience, help, assistance, a 3d printer or just divine inspiration I will manage to devise a way to achieve it all and make the Whirly Gig come to life.

On a separate note, thank you so much for your comment;

I forgot to say: this is the most astonishing, amazing, wonderful Tardis interior model build I think I've ever seen on this site, or anywhere else. Well done. I look forward to reading more about it!

Best regards,

Peter.

I am truly touched by your comment, especially in such great company on here.
I originally posted the Tardis just to share back all the hard work and efforts that the people on here have put into this site, as I found it an invaluable resource whilst constructing the Tardis.
I am so pleased that it is bringing something back to you guys in whatever fashion, as the main motivation throughout the whole process was actually my son (the little Whovian) and his request for "His very own Tardis", with "Moving lights and parts", that was mobile so that he could "Take it to Grandmas", but it had to "Look like the real thing".
Given yours and others comments, I think it may be a case of mission accomplished!
I will be posting a build thread on here as time permits, as well as some more pictures highlighting the details/beauty shots and a HD video as well concentrating on the overall detail.

I'd say more than that. As we said in the military (at least the US nautical military):

Hi Grat,
Thank you so much for your comment, I am very pleased that you think that this is awesome, especially with the standard of work on this site.
A build thread, more beauty shots and a HD details video will be posted on here very shortly.

Hi Tardis Builders,
Just a quick post as I have been promising for so long that I would post more detailed completion shots and a HD Details video.
I do apologise for the delays, but I am in the process of moving house and all that entails, so priorities had to change a little.
Anyhow, before I disappear off into the great blue yonder, I thought it was about time to make time and get these pictures up and the new HD video.
I have been faithfully informed that you guys like pictures, lots of pictures, so I hope that you like these, some are more detailed pictures taken in broad daylight rather than the darker atmospheric ones!

I hope that you like the pictures and the new video, I have a build thread prepared, which I will post in sections, there are 11 in total with 250 pictures, so I hope that will make some of you happy.
Just a case of finding the time in between moving out of the old and setting up in the new to get it all posted.
But for now, I hope the above keeps you all satisfied.

Dino.

Hi Dino,
Thanks for your picture and comment, I am afraid however that the position of adopted son has already been taken and is no longer available. We will of course keep you in mind should anything change in the near future.

On a serious note, you said that you and the site liked pics, well I hope that those ones appeased!

The build thread has been put together and just needs a little bit of tweaking before posting.
There are 11 sections and over 250 pictures, I may have to chat to one of the moderators to move this thread with the finished pics into the gallery before posting up the build thread separately.
Only small problem is I am moving home in the very near future, so I hope to try to either get the build thread up before the move, or at least start it, get setup in the new place and then complete it, just like a Time Lord, time, as always is against me!

Hi darren79,
Thank you so much for your comment, I agree about stuff being a kid, that is why it is mandatory to play with Dad, got to let that big kid out sometimes!
I am extremely pleased that you think it is a stunning piece of work, especially given the great work posted on here.
It was quite a bit of work over a 2 year period, as and when time allowed.
I am going to be posting a build thread in the near future as it has been requested, so I hope that you will find that of interest.

You're quite welcome! The adoption thing... the story of my lives: a century late, and several hundred credits short! :P

That's definitely something worth looking forward to! (Keep in mind that you are limited to 100 photos per post. After that, you'll have to start a new post - not another thread, but a new post in your Build thread.)

I may have to chat to one of the moderators to move this thread with the finished pics into the gallery before posting up the build thread separately.

I believe you just have. The Mods read (review) each post to ensure the content is within the Forum Rules and Guidelines. (I think we have both so no one can say "Well, they're more like guidelines than actual rules". ;)) So when one of the Mods reads your post mentioning moving this thread into the Console Gallery Section, it will only be a matter of time (usually not more than a couple of days, depending on how busy they are) before one of them moves this into the Gallery.

To make things easier on all of us (yourself especially with that move coming up), I would get your Diary started now and post what you can. (Just give it a bit of a different name so it's not confused with this one since they'll both show up in the Thread List on the Main Page.) Take a break from posting as needed, and if necessary post the rest after the move. This will break things up so we aren't overwhelmed with a huge post all at once, and it will prevent you from having to sit at the computer for hours on end trying to get a complete Diary posted in one go.

Besides, as we tell everyone, we never put a limit on how fast to post an update. If you want to only post 10 photos of the build progress a day (which will no doubt include you typing out what you did and how you did it), then that's how you can do it. If you need to take a few days break before the next Update, no biggie. If you only get through 1/4th of your build before the move, again no biggie. We'll be here when you're ready to post again.

Thanks for your message Dino,
So as suggested by you, I will post the 1st of the 11 sections of the build thread now under a different title to make it clear that it is the build thread and will keep posting right up until my moving date.
Just to make it clear to the moderator which is the build thread and which is the finished pictures thread that it can be moved into the gallery.
Each section of the build thread has 25 -30 pictures, staying well within the 100 limit per post, so that should not be a problem and I will try to post 1 or 2 a week, so as not to overwhelm and have a huge post all at once
Good to know that there is no pressure to post, but once settled in, I will of course post up the rest of the sections to completion.

Then I will get onto onto posting up the rest of the projects that I have already mentioned previously, namely some personalised scratch built Sonic Screwdrivers, a Sonic Screwdriver Carry-All, a cardboard Tardis model, a complete scratch built Pandorica, to use with the 5" action figures with sliding doors, a 1/2 size remote control cardboard K9 and finally, a full size Junk Yard Tardis Console, with working lights, monitors and controls.

But once again, thank you for all the information and suggestions, it was invaluable.
Rob.

Hi Russell,
Thank you so much for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. I am very pleased that you think it is a serious bit of kit and is fantastic work, high praise indeed considering the company on Tardis builders.
I have just started posting a build thread separately which can be found here;http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=7922.0, should it be of interest to you.

Thanks again, Rob.
