Then there was 2 movies with Peter Cushing in it as "The Doctor", so I went through that those too, "Doctor Who & The Daleks" & "Daleks Invasion of Earth 2150 A.D.".

This is an excellent source!

So, from this comprehensive list we see:

• From the very beginning, negative effect used to indicate weapon fired. No beam. Metal prongs emerge from gun.


• Genesis: Inside of extending prongs is orange. First use of beam to show energy weapon.


• Destiny: Extending prongs fully orange and don't curl back as much (plastic?) Negative effect now confined to area around victim.


• Remembrance: First use of 'x-ray' effect on victim. Beam no longer continuous. Different beam colours for the different types of Dalek. Also I can't see the prongs used here.


• Movies: Just fire extinguishers, no VFX
