Honestly... I spend just a few days away and everyone's gone Met box mad!!!
As for the pseudo Sheffield box, there are too many similarities to discount the possibility that it was once a police box and has now been converted for use as something else...it almost reminds me of a shed box. Where is it anyway?

Apparently it's in Longhurst Lane in Coventry

The sheffield type appears to have been used in various places, This one is very bizarre?!

Definately the same architecture.....

Look beside the tree to the left of the picture, you can just see the right hand side of the box. This is the village of Downe near Biggin Hill. There is still a K6 outisde the pub in the village.

That Longhurst Lane picture - it's a police box all right! It's just like the garden shed box at Avoncroft... but with a bad case of petrifold regression.

That's good, I will go to coventry one day and see if I can find it.

Today I went to Southampton to try and find a blue K6 down there but couldn't find it so on the way home I decided to go up to Northwood first and get a picture of the Police Post outside the Police Station and here it is......

Judging from the phone in it and the message in the window, the phone can be used to contact the police when the station is closed. Isn't that what they were designed for? Also, I noticed it's got a fresnel, I didn't think the posts had these?

Robert,

I wonder if the post lights up at night or with phone use?
Could you see a bulb in the fresnel?
This would be a nice addition to the family! :)

Nice pic!

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Wouldn't one of these look great in the back garden with Dad's build and the K6 & letter box! I know somewhere that sells these for £6,800 which to earn i'd have to work non stop for about 5 years I think!!!

I must be honest I didn't think to look inside the lense to see if there was a light in it or not, i'm sure i'll be back in the area again sometime so next time i'll have a look.

Nice one RP, no blue ones-but I've seen some baige ones recently.

The Met.Police posts had mini fresnels while other posts had the amber lamps (like the Avoncroft specimen). These looked similar but had no actual fresnel rings.

Hi All
With the CG skills of RP, the "Now and then" thread appears to have turned full circle. This just looks so right to me
Many thanks

Brilliant picture KB.
The first of many I suspect.  ;)

Where next? Barnet By-Pass perhaps?

Hi Mark,

There's a place down in Southampton called Ocean Village. There is a blue K6 in the residential area which unfortunately is residents only and there was a lot of security so I could not get in to find it.

Does anyone know anyone who lives there that could let me in to see it???

Maybe a little googling could help you find out who owns the site and you could write to them.

Either that or you could try the old "flourescent coat, hard hat and clipboard" trick. You'd be suprised where you can get with just those props!

This I found on some website last night and i've never seen it before, Longhurst Lane in Coventry, the site suggests it's still there. It swears it's a police box and the second picture shows the telephone panel. The front looks incredibly like the Sheffield box with the windows covered up. Thoughts?
