Some of you may remember my first attempt at this prop way back at the beginning of last year: http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=6884
I was never really happy with that version (completely inaccurate and constantly falling apart) so I've finally decided to have another go, this time with accurate templates!!

Credit for the files goes to wondersquid of TheRPF, who was kind enough to make his templates available online:

The first step was to print out the templates:

Although I normally prefer cardboard as my material of choice for building props, cereal box card just isn't flexible enough for a Cyberman, so I'm resorting to foam instead.

I cut out the template for Handles' face and began marking out where the damaged parts go.

I then traced around the template and cut it out of 1.5mm thick craft foam.

I did the same for the forehead, and here's where I'm at so far:

Finally, some cardboard!! ;D The sides of the Cyber-head needed to be less flexible than the other pieces, so I was able to sneak some cardboard into this build. ;)

Attached to the side of the head with plenty of tape:

I then traced out the template for the back of the head, and assembled them to form two curved(ish) shapes.

And here's where I'm at so far with the build, after just a few hours working on it. I coated all of the joins in PVA glue hold all the pieces together until I can apply the paper mache.

More updates soon.

More body work on Handles today.

The opening for the neck was way to big, so I cut a second chin out of cardboard, this time with a smaller hole for the neck, and stuck this onto the bottom of the head.

I also carved all of the cracks into Handles' face.

Now onto the paper mache. Can't wait... ::)

Today I started working on Handles' ears.

According to the blueprints, the base layer needed to be 1/2" thick, so I stacked together two layers of 1/4" thick cardboard.

The middle layer needed to he 1/4" thick, so I used a single piece of cardboard.

Finally, the top layer needed to be 1/8" thick, so I stacked together two layers of craft foam.

So far, I haven't seen one of 14th's builds that hasn't. He never disappoints! :D

Thanks guys. ;D ;D

Hopefully tomorrow I can finish the ear pods and begin to paper mache the rest of the head.

Today I finally made a start on paper mache-ing Handles' face. ;D

I'm also thinking of remaking the ear pods out of cereal boxes rather than corrugated cardboard, as I will be able to get a much cleaner and neater finish for painting.

More updates tomorrow.

This morning I began remaking Handles' ear pods. I got as far as building the first two layers before I ran out of cereal boxes. ::)

Let me know what you think of the build so far. More updates soon.

This build is coming along really nicely! I like how it is made out of sone kind of foam, but as always,  it does the job perfectly with a bit of TLC and hard work. I cant wait to see how you tackle the bar bits.

The14thDr

Thanks Karomak! As you know I don't normally like to work with much other than carboard, but I've found that the foam is much more flexible for making the curved shape of Handles' head.

The foam parts will need at least a couple of coats of the paper mache, to strengthen the foam and make it stiffer, so it may be a while before I begin adding the extra details.

As for the bars, I've got a few ideas as to how I might tackle them. Stay tuned. ;)

If you or your dad know of an electrician, you may be able to get some 16mm 0r 20mm PVC conduit scraps from them, they would work & yo would need 2 elbows & 2 bends. Elbows are slightly different to elbows, (well they are here in Australia). If not, 2 bends. I use to be an electrician :-) .

If you can't get the above, some cardboard tubing & cut it at an 45 deg. angle for the corners. Just a thought.

Your doing a great job on this, can't wait to see what you do next on this. (Thumbs Up)

Thanks for the suggestion Davros Skaro.

Funnily enough, I actually have plenty of conduit that I bought to decorate my console room with (although I still haven't gotten round to that yet ::) :P)

More updates soon.

Nothing against the electrical conduit since that would serve well, be strong, and have almost the right color without any paint, but if you know a plumber you might be able to get the same size scraps of PVC tubing. The advantage of that is lighter weight; it wouldn't be as heavy as the metal electrical conduit; it would just require more painting. (It might even be slightly easier to glue in place.)

So that makes two options for Handles' handles. :D
