Thanks Dino, I'm rather proud of the way this has turned out (not to blow my own trumpet, of course ;)) And I completely agree, the changes I made between the original concept and the 3D model make the design look better and more unique.

Davros Skaro: thanks for the comment; hopefully I should be getting this printed sometime around January, so stay tuned for photos of the actual key.

Kind regards, The14thDr :D

Today I uploaded the file for the hybrid Cardinal TARDIS key to Thingiverse for anyone wanting to modify or print this themselves.

I'd love to see if anyone adapts or prints this design themselves.

I received my print of the "Cardinal" TARDIS key earlier in the week.

My original plan was to paint and maybe weather the key, but for now I quite like the look of the "raw" plastic.

Let me know what you think.

It looks really good, 14th; really good! The design of this one makes me think, if you decide to paint it, a color scheme akin to the "Siege Mode" TARDIS would be a good one, with maybe some really bright blue in the recesses of the Gallifreyan symbol and the Kasterborous Constellation - as if those recesses were glowing with TARDIS Artron Energy.

That's an awesome idea Dino!! Like I said before, I was going to leave the key as it is, but this is so good I think I'm going to do it. ;D

Stay tuned for further updates.

After a bit of a hiatus, I think it's about time I finally finished this little key. Once the silver base coat had dried, following an excellent suggestion from Dino, I painted all the recesses bright blue, as if they were glowing with residual Artron energy.

I then used various shades of blue to create an effect similar to the "Siege Mode" TARDIS - sort of like a rare Gallifreyan alloy.

The lines on the back of the key reminds me of Aztec drawings with the one long line snake like patterns. Or some type of drawing with square angled lines.

A lot of people use sandpaper or special products to remove/disguise the print lines, but I really like the effect they give on this key - it looks more interesting than just smooth plastic.

I've slowly been building up the persona for my Fourteenth Doctor, and I used this to influence the final design for the key. My Doctor is even more of a tinkerer than his previous incarnations, and decided to upgrade the TARDIS key with enhanced circuitry to give it a bunch of new features. For a start, the range has been boosted ten-fold, meaning it can remote summon the TARDIS from the other side of the galaxy, as well as activate the cloaking mechanism and a perception filter function.

In reality, I used some 3D printed circuitry and a resistor left over from my perception filter key. ;)

Nice job you've done on this, but don't forget that you have to get the key into the door lock, so you need to keep everything away from this part, so your resistor & bits, need to be on the top section, Just a thought.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about that. Although this won't actually fit into any lock so I think I can get away with it. :P
