Mark, thats brilliant news - I can't tell you how pleased I am that you've got this box. ;D A huge amount of work for you I'm sure, but I bet you'll do a great restoration job.

Can't wait to see some more photos of the box. Hope its not too much of a trial to get it back to Sheffield.

I am sooooooooooo jealous!

Okay, so it's not exactly a Police Box, but.... might be useful:

But look at the price!

It didn't get a bid last time, funny - can't imagine why?!

Remeber the Almondbury police box, the one with a letter box?

Passed it again the other day (and obviously had to stop! I need help  ::)).

By looking through the dark blue glass section of the windows, you get a reasonably good view inside.

It's looking in good nick and appears as though it's still in service too.

One thing I noticed is that this box has a fully plumbed in sink!

This is the infamous Police Box my mother kept telling be about since I was very young, however, when she looked at this picture she was shocked that she'd remembered it as a Met Box and not like this - the box on the left.

The picture was taken outside of Paragon Train Station in Hull, East Yorkshire.  Just thought it may be of interest.

PS.  This is the first time this particular box has appeared on line, in fact, I think it's been pretty much forgotten about until now.  One for the archives.

Nice one Purple, thanks for sharing.

It always amuses me about the Met style of Police Box. Any one I speak to (not concerned with this site!) always replies "I remember one of those on so an so street" and the always seem to say it was the same as a Met Box and they're always blue!

I recently had a conversation with 3 retired bobbies, my mission was to find out the original colour of the Sheffield box. In the end, no-one could decide whether they were orignally blue, green or what!

Memories hey?!

Oh that's fascinating - not an olde-tea-rooms-style Hull box. It must surely have been made of concrete?

Yes, where I live everyone remembers the local police telephones as looking exactly like the Tardis - even the little police pillars!

In keeping with the "deceiving memories" theme, I visited a web site about a Police Museum and they had a picture of a Police Pillar (baby TARDIS type) with the caption "A police box" next to it.

Thought you had to be at least six foot tall to be a cop in those days?!

Lovely pics Mark.

While I was browsing through Google Image Search searching for "Police Box" (well, what else does one do of a Sunday evening?) I found this: http://www.dan-n.co.jp/etc/minamiosawa/minamiosawa.html
which I think might be a modern Japanese police box (but who knows? The text is all in Japanese).
And guess what: it has roundels inside.

Check it out.

Ah, so that's what they look like with the chameleon circuit switched off.

Hmm, I imagined that I wasn't the only one idly googling 'police box'! Evidently a Japanese police box is called a 'koban' and a google image search will summon lots of pictures of these, both ancient and modern...

How cool!

I'd seen sites with these Koban's mentioned, but never got round to having a look. Kind looks like a space-ship in it's own right.

Do you reckon the roundels were a nod in the direction of it's distanct relative?
