Just to give everyone a better view of that platform:

Same image, just with a little gamma correction and some brightening (and a little sharpening). Now the edge of the platform stands out against the black floor a bit better for all to see.

Now, this may sound blasphemous on a 'Who' forum, but with a platform like that, and of that size, I would say go for one of those railings like you see on the Enterprise bridge in 'Star Trek: TOS'. Make the segments straight so the railing is multi-sided, and give it four breaks at 90 degrees to each other so there are several ways to step up and down from the platform. You could so with the red/red-orange color of the series railing, or black as it was in the 1st Pilot "The Cage" when Captain Pike had the ship, or you could go with a color that suits your eye.

With the color scheme you've got going, the red-orange would match the circle above the archway and the colored panels on the console; black would match the room, a light shade of blue would match the hexels on the walls. You could even go silver so it reflected all of the various colors in the room and leave people guessing what the actual color is.
