I started planning this project at 3 o'clock this afternoon, and I've set myself the target of finishing within the next 48 hours.

Thanks Oblivion. Unfortunately the 48-hour deadline challenge has been postponed for a while because I've decided to get my Twelfth Doctor's guitar finished before I start any new projects. :P

So much for the 48-hour challenge!! ;D ;D
It's been over a year since the original post and I've finally decided to build me some Cybermites! ;D

I began by moulding the basic shape out of modelling clay. Once this dries I can carve the clay into a more Cybermite-ish shape.

More updates soon.

I guess this is an appropriate time to say "it's not 12 hours, it's um, 12 months. You've been gone (from this build) for a whole year. Sorry".
;D

I like the modelling clay method you're doing with these kinds of builds.
What are you gonna do? Moisturize me?

Don't you just love it when a Doctor Who reference fits perfectly into a real-life situation. ;) ;D

Thanks Karomak, I find modelling clay to be the easiest method for making smaller props such as this. (Although in hindsight I should have moulded the clay around a piece of wire for strength, oh well :P)

Sanded down to the approximate shape for a Cybermite.

Now I can begin carving in the finer details of the prop. More updates soon.

Before I could get any further with adding the detailing to this piece, there were a few tiny cracks in the clay that I had to take care of.

This was a quick fix with some wet clay acting as a filler.

I then carved out the front of the face.

I carved two grooves into the bottom of my Cybermite for the antennae, then glued the two paper clips into place.

I finally started carving the detail lines into my Cybermite.

Hopefully I'll get this one completed sometime soon. ;) ;D

I've just finished carving all the detail lines into my Cybermite. I then used a cocktail stick to paint the little grooves with black acrylic paint.

Once this had dried I used my finger to paint the rest of Cybermite, using a cocktail stick to wipe most of the excess paint out of the black grooves.

I just have a couple of small details to add then this prop will finally be finished. ;D

More updates soon.

For the LED in the front of my Cybermite I cheated slightly and substituted in a tiny acrylic gem. I'm pretty happy with the effect this gives.

At long last this tiny build is finished. The plan was originally to build a small army of these critters, but after that I think I'll pass ;D (I may look into moulding and casting this eventually, but not for a long while)

Cardinal Hordriss

That looks awesome, creepy little things. I'd have it neutered to be on the safe side.

The14thDr

Why'd you think I didn't give it any legs? ;D ;D The last thing I want is that little critter running around the house. ;D

The body would actually be easy to cast in aluminium... hmmmmmmm.
