Hey everyone! Long time no see!

I have been working off on the side and finally want to share my progress with everyone here as much as I can.

Last year I decided I wanted to finally make a console that could become a year-long/winter project...but which one?

Prior to the 2013 reveal, my favourite consoles were the wooden Season 14 and the the 2005 Console, and i was waffling between those. But then the Christmas special hit and I was floored by the new Console. It was like a mesh of all the previous consoles, but streamlined, simplier, back to the right shape (IMO) and just hit all the right notes for me!

Now I am rubbish at writing EVERYTHING down, so I am having a Vlog series on my channel here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_6xsaDnQ6Y

&

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JZELGeSVjs

I hope to have a video weekly as I build, find parts and assemble everything.

I decided to scale it down slightly but keep as many parts actual size as I can. It'll still be fairly large! Each panel will be 40" wide making it about 80" point to point!

Here are a few pictures though to see where I got to.

After I had a friend model and figure out the scale I started to rough out the panel details...lots of changes still and playing around.

I am also ignoring the Jelly Panel and doing one custom with my own ideas!

Can't wait though!IMG_8455.JPGIMG_8456.JPGIMG_8457.JPGIMG_8458.JPGIMG_8459.JPGIMG_8460.JPGIMG_8461.JPGIMG_8462.JPG

I've been waiting for someone to build this console!! ;D This design is also my favourite console. How did you create the templates for the panel layouts?

Kind regards, The14thDr :D

I used Adobe Illustrator to lay them out on my flat piece dimensions :)

Whoa, already I'm looking forward to see how this looks when it's done. Hope you don't mind me asking, but what are your ideas for instead of having the Telepathic Interface (Jelly Panel)? Or are you keeping them secret? What planned and done are already really impressive and I believe this will be a great build.

Yay someone replicating my favourite post-2005 console. Look forward to seeing it complete. Maybe one day I'll join in and do this console too. Good luck!

Hopefully you mean the project will be a year long, and not the winter!

Two very excellent choices! The Season 14 wooden console is so completely different that it's truly unique. The same could almost be said of the 2005 console, but the Rani's console was also round rather than hexagonal, and the 2010 console also had lights glowing below the panels, and it also had coral texture on it. Still, I've always liked round, glowing things, and the 2005 console is tied with the original Hartnell/Brachacki console for my #1 favorite. (The Season 14 and 1996 TVM consoles coming in second.)

Erm... "back to the right shape" being hexagonal, I'll agree with; though having that soft spot for the 2005 console I'd say more "traditional" shape (because any console in the Doctor's TARDIS is going to be "the right shape"). "Streamlined"? That would fall more on the likes of the Season 20 console. "Simpler"? With all of those buttons (more akin to "The Five Doctors" console) and the panel with the intermeshing sprockets under its round window? Not so much simpler, especially with those two swivel monitors around the base of the central column, or the whirligig atop it.

This is the console that is tied with the "Five Doctors" console for last place on my list. (Sorry: personal preference.)

Still pretty close to actual size, I think, give or take a few inches.

Everything looks great, and going by your TARDIS and K-9 and previous console builds I can only imagine that this build will come off as amazingly as those others. But really... leaving out the Telepathic (Jelly) Panel? That's about the only part of this console I actually do like (probably because it's glowy and color-changing).

Still, I have no doubt that you'll do a smashing job on this and I can't wait to see the old girl start to take shape!

Good luck with the build!

Thanks guys! I am looking forward to getting it as physically matching as possible!

LMC97, I have no idea yet! But I want it to stylistically match the rest of the console for sure, so maybe some gauges and switches and who knows what else! I do look forward to playing with some ideas for sure!

Dino!

Apologies! I was so upset when the TARDIS rotted away and then some DW related fan drama kept me off board for a little while. Plus now my Youtube Show seems to be doing well!

I've always liked the wooden console, since i was a kid. It was a great room and style and I was sad to see it go away.

And yeah I meant the traditional hexagonal shape, it deviated for the 2005 revival and slowly transitioned back so I am cool with that ;) However by streamlined and simpler I meant the layout of the current console compared to that of its two predecessors, nit the classic series. Since 2005-2012 the console had a bit of a haphazard look to it and this was pulling it back in.

I however, will not be replicating the whirling top bit at all!

And nothing is stopping my final panel from being colour changing ;)

No need for apologies, Justin. I also get upset when a TARDIS rots away, even when a Met Box build like KB's falls victim to the ravages of time and Mother Nature. And I also get upset when drama keeps people away - especially "DW-related" fan drama. To quote Red Green: "We're all in this together." There should be no drama, only support, and I do try my darnedest to keep my cool and help calm things when I can. (It doesn't always turn out that way, but we all make mistakes - we're only humanoid - and I'm the first one to send an apology if I've caused any drama.)

Ditto. And I don't know how much truth there is to the rumor, but that was intended to be the look of the console room from then on, but the walls got damaged while being stored in the off-season break and the powers that be decided to go back to the Main Console Room look for Season 15. And if I remember correctly, the person that junked the console after stripping the poor thing of all usable electrics said he regretted junking her, and not saving her from the skip.

Again, ditto. At first I didn't know what to think of the round console - remembering the Rani's round one from "The Mark of the Rani" where there was no clear definition between panels. But then I saw those coral ribs and glowing panels and thought 'Hey, I kind of like that look'. But the 2010 console started growing on me when she appeared; she was an "exploded" hexagon, but still a hexagon (more traditional), and she still had lights glowing under the panels, which helped me along with growing to like her.

Ah; I see what you mean now. The 2005 console was more haphazard than her successor; at least the 2010 console had some semblance of order to how the controls were laid out. (I still like those consoles, though: one has brightly glowing panels, and one has "The Wibbly Lever!" ;) ;D)

Well, you could... make it out of cardboard with the doctor who2's magnificent high-def symbols on it. Just make the whirligig stationary: non-rotating, room permitting.

Oooh! A surprise for the "mystery panel"! :D :D :D I am intrigued!

Perhaps on your "Custom sixth panel" you could throw a reference to the season 14 console! Since you love it so much! You know, maybe just a small, trapezoidal piece of that panel that hinges down to reveal a sunken in section with the Season 14 buttons and grill! That would be really cool! But I'm sure no matter what you do it will look fantastic! Great work mate!

Really? Thank you very much! Like I said, I know that whatever you create it will look amazing! I've seen your other props and costumes and they all look phenomenal!

13drwho

As a hard core fan of the classic show this is my favorite new series console! It is a lot more reminiscent of the classic series consoles. The random stuff glued to the console for the first two seemed a little cheap looking. It looked like garage sale stuff bolted to a modified table. I know it was a very impressive technical accomplishment to design and build those consoles, but they almost looked like parodies of the original consoles. I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just my opinion.

I look forward to seeing the progress on your console.
