As you've just said in the above picture, it could well be your 6'' post assumption which is wrong, so you just need to scale the box differently, rather than messing with the relative proportions. And also, the 21.05 degree bevel angle will surely be independent of the scale? Even if you assume the doors are only 6'' high you would still get a 21.05 degree bevel angle surely?

Yes, the bevel angle will remain the same.  I agree it's probably time to abandon one of the "accepted" dimensions - either the 78" door height or the 6" post width.  But both have been perpetuated for awhile it seems, so I wanted to really give them a chance to be correct.  I've just been triple-checking my internal proportions, and in shot after shot after shot, they are nearly dead-on.  Look:

I can't put this to bed either way yet, because at these early stages, it's crucial to get things as close as possible, otherwise errors compound further down the line.  I want to give people with more expertise a chance to weigh in as well!

If the 1/5th Codsteaks Tardis is correct then the doors should be 77.5 inches high.
They do claim to have taken their measurements from the actual prop.

It's pretty hard to judge the height of props from people standing by them. Would people like to try guessing the height of my TARDIS door from this picture?

Scarfwearer is 6'1¼" in boots. Notice my eyes are level with the middle window bar as they are for PD and CB in two of the preceding pictures....

Yep, that's why I've been focusing on the proportions, since the actual size is irrelevant - for now anyway. :)

Well, I can think of at least 3 stories where the TARDIS changes size (anyone?), so perhaps you should set the door height at 1000 millirassilons and give all other dimensions relative to that.  :)

Relative dimensions: the only way to go.

It's a very good method of estimating dimensions. I've used it on the Hartnell console to get some of my estimates.

I've only scanned this thread - so forgive me if I'm covering something others have said - but could the 78" door height include the distance above the door jamb which isn't normally visible? Would that help square up the two estimates?

I'm definitely more inclined to go for the 77.5 or 78 for the height of the doors.
I've always thought the pillars looked wider than 6 inches.

Someone mentioned the Cod Steaks Ltd. TARDIS replica as being likely accurate, since they reportedly took measurements off the original.

A good friend of mine who happened to have one was kind enough to let me measure it, Logopolis-style, with digital calipers today.  I'm going to build the box using those dims and try overlaying it on the references to see how close it really is...

The Cod Steaks designer did measure the original prop, but the final model was a somewhat sanitised version of it.  The corner posts, windows/panels, sign boxes and roof were all tweaked somewhat to make it easier to build where elements were either rounded up or down.  It's still the most accurate model out there to date, but not 100% accurate to the original prop.

So can anyone confirm the dimensions of the posts or door height for Mike?
Someone has to know...

I've been thinking that the Yale lock is an absolute, and knowable measurement.  I don't know if current models have the same dims as the original - nor do I know the original model, but I KNOW someone here knows, and if so, a call to the manufacturer can confirm its dimensions.  That would be a great known which would answer a lot of subsequent questions.
