It's a standard Yale lock.  Another similar brand that some people have used are ETAS(sp?) locks.  I've seen Yale locks at Ace Hardware, Menards, and I think even Target.

For Reference I have seen the type of lock called a "Night Latch" and "Rim Lock"

Security Latch Model No. 80 with Cylinder No. 1109E and standard rim lock

This is what was recommended to  me.  It is an awesome lock that IS Yale and I am sure was used on 1 or more than 1 incarnation of the Tardis... I am sure throughout the series other locks were shown.   The key has evolved a bit with technology and style and looks different than the key in Blink.   But it does look futuristic as heck and I greatly recommend this lock.

E-T-A-S  Enoch Tonks & Sons.  Are they still around?

Is a futuristic realy a good thing? isn't the tardis meant to outwardly reflect a comoun 1963 landmark? not that it matters for the police box because you don't see it much but if you're talking about the 2005 inner door...

I just read that ETAS were absorbed by Yale in the mid sixties so it doesn't really matter because Yale are now more or less the most authentic locks available for a police box.

Thank you Teletran for your comments. Your input is correct. Both ETAS locks and Yale locks were widely used in England.  While I am in the U.S. and not in England...And, while I haven't ever seen a real police box because of this fact (except in pictures for reference).   The ORIGINAL QUESTION was "What lock was used on the TARDIS".  Again, I am not seeking to correct you, as you are right to begin with. I have seen both Yale and ETAS locks on Tardis props shown on the new series 1-4 .   HOWEVER, I do know that THAT specific Yale model lock was one of the Yale locks used on one of those Dr. Who series 1-4 Tardis props.   I just made mention that since those episodes aired that showed that style lock , Yale apparently updated their keys and they don't look like they used to 3 or 4 years ago, but they are nice, none-the-less.  Here is a pic for reference of the lock I will be using on my Tardis.

Thank you for sharing your ETAS lock, because I have seen ETAS locks used on TV Tardis props also.  I didn't know anything about what lock to get and I consulted different folks like Scarfwearer, PB, MoonPie1, Willytron, and others (if I left you out just know I haven't forgotten you)... before I made my purchase.

Your Question in your last post "Did this ETAS lock ever get used on a real police box" deserves an answer.  I don't have that information but perhaps one of the moderators OR an Admin can be of more assistance with that.

I'll assume you're talking about how the actual lock mechanism (which is installed on the backside of the door) sticks out from the edge of the door when you center the lock-face insert.

What I did was to simply allow the the mechanism to overlap and painted the portion that was visible the same black as the interior of the box.

The only other way I can see doing even better would be to find a lock mechanism with more accomodating dimensions.

If you look at my photos on the Tardis Builders Guild,  I have posted pictures of both the lock face as well as the lock mechanism that fits behind the door.

The last 2 photos at the bottom. Is this what you're talking about?

I had trouble fitting a lock too. I ended up using parts from two locks, one to get the front to look right and the other to get the offset where it's needed.
The centre of the front plate on mine is 1 3/4 inches from the door edge. I got the locks from Lowes.

Have you tried to get hold of a 40mm Yale lock, as oppose to a 60mm Yale lock? I was looking at them today for my build.

If it's any use to anybody, this is the lock that is on the Crich box (it looks the same on some of the other boxes too).

There isn't any words such as "Yale" or "Union" on the front of the key plate (in case you think its just the blurry photo!)

That's a curious blurry thing. The Barnet box key plate had the word (or acronym) ETAS on it.

Ah, ETAS, famous for making locks for public Lavatories!
http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/Museum/locks/gazetteer/etas/etas01.htm
E Tonks & Sons Ltd (ETAS) was taken over by Yale and Towne Ltd in 1963 and by 1965 they had stopped making ETAS locks.

I have to go - David Tennant is on BBC4 in The Quatermass experiment
