With RADIATION; PRESSURE; WATER VAPOUR; and OXYGEN known - they all seem to refer to external atmosphere measurements. The only obvious one missing is "temperature"
Lovely job with the plans Tony. Sorry - must get you my measurements for the Radiation meter at some point... Though it looks like maybe you don't need them!

I'm at the limit of what Microsoft 'Paint' will allow me to do - I don't think I'll be able to add graphics to the meters especially as the lettering curves to match the 'travel' of the indicator needle. If someone else wants to have a go, please feel free!

Best

What is the 1.25" next to the 1" on the fascia thickness?

I have to ask myself how many copies of PAINT you have open so that you can work on this effectively :D

Hi Marc,
From the little bits of the original BBC plans that are available,  the hardwood fascia is specified as 1" thick. In practice, because it's planed timber, it would be fractionally less. It's clear from all the photos/screen grabs that the control panels sit inside the fascia and are detachable from the 'sub-frame'. The 0.125" therefore represents the slight gap between the inside edge of the fascia and the lowest (outer) edge of the panel.
Does that help?

Seven - the blank 'master' panel and the six individual panels!

Rassilons Rod

So not, one copy per control to copy the duplicated controls onto your master blank?

Dude, you should totally get photoshop :D

Yeah, I think I get that about the 0.125... But I think any gap is just depth generated from the angle of the panel.

I think that there are three possibilities when it comes to how the panel and fascia meet:

However, judging by these comparisons, the panels meet as per the right most illustration above:

This would seem to accord with what was intended:

And, in close-up, would seem to be what we got:

I've simply allowed 0.125" "wiggle room" to allow the panel to be seated in the console's frame (of which the fascia is a part).

I go with the first option (obviously with a small shelf on the inside for it to rest on.

Wow, Tony! You're doing all of that in Paint?! You are truly amazing, my friend!

Well... Whilst I was looking for something else to screen grab, I found this from the transmitted version of An Unearthly Child. It's from when Susan is closing the doors after Barbara forces her way in.

So there we have it, definitive proof of our assumptions that it was rubber matting all along :)

Can't see where there'd be screws though... Sorry Tony! :)

Great screen grab Marc, thanks!

Another little mystery solved. I can't see screws either - perhaps the marks I identified as holes were simply marks made to locate these ribbed mats (akin to the pencil lines seen on the panel from the Sensorites screen grab).

Here's my new version of Panel 3.

I think I could use a little help with refining the door handles though ;)

It's possible the screws were added later on if the matting was starting to peel off and needed to be fixed down.

Good point, well made. I'd have gone with glue, myself. But Anything is possible :)
