I hope my TARDIS doesn't see this thread.  She'd be jealous.

Hi all.

I'm afraid I've got some bad news.

The Youth Centre where I teach, & also where I keep my TARDIS, recently announced that the whole building is to be demolished.

This shouldn't have come as a surprise, really, as the whole building is pre war & in a terrible condition, but I have been conducting my classes from this location for twenty years now, so it is a wrench, plus I have to find new premises for my club.

The other issue is that my TARDIS will be demolished along with the building.

I tried to rescue it by taking it down myself, but it was never built to come apart, but as a strong, external structure.
As I started to try to dismantle it, I also discovered several large patches of rotten wood, hidden by all the layers of paint.

The upshot of all this is that the whole structure eventually collapsed under It's own weight & is now just a pile of splintered wood.

I'm gutted that I have lost my TARDIS & am now an ex-TARDIS owner, but I did enjoy here for nearly ten years, so I'm trying not to be too upset.

I don't have anywhere to build a new box at the moment, as my garden is way too small, so I won't be starting a new build anytime soon, but I do intend to stay an active member of the site, & satisfy my TARDIS addiction by living vicariously through every one elses build!

Try not to be too upset by the photos...

  :( :'(

Ouch. I'm so sorry for the loss of your youth centre and your TARDIS. It was a great one and it makes me very sad to see it end. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that your TARDIS will live on the threads of this forum to hopefully inspire a new generation of TARDIS builders.

Here's hoping that you're able to build a second TARDIS down the line and that you find a new place for your club soon.

Such a shame :( Hopefully you saved the signs?

Ouch.  A double-whammy.  :(  I've moved mine twice (once across country), so I've been very aware of how much rot and entropy mine has.  At this point it is a little like the Battlestar Galactica in the final episode: Colonel Tigh reports that "Her back's broke. She'll never jump again."

Well, on the plus side, you built yours with mostly found materials, and you've learned a lot over the years, so when you find another place for a TARDIS you actually get to apply all those things.

Heh.  Here in America houses have depreciation you take on them for tax purposes--the premise being that the house will eventually wear out and be worthless.  I think that applies a lot more to TARDISes.  A house is a lot easier to maintain and do repairs on.

Unfortunately the signs were the most rotted bit!!

Thanks for the replies, guys.

It is a shame, but worse things happen at sea... :'(

Hopefully, as you say, one day I'll get to build another one.

Sorry to see this, Russell!

For a truly addled moment, I thought it suffered the ravages of Hurricane Idalia that just tore through my region!  Then I realized, "Hey, stupid!  Russell lives in the UK, not the panhandle of Florida or south Georgia!"

You had so much fun with it as a setting for cosplay photo shoots as you finished each Doctor's ensemble.  What a shame!  Before I read your entire post, I feared the demolition crew took a swing at your police box before you had a chance to intervene!  For me, that would have been far worse than bog standard "Logopolis Effect".

Yes, my problems are nothing compared to all the poor people who have lost everything in all the floods, fires & hurricanes across the world,
I guess I could have just left my TARDIS to be demolished along with the rest of the building, but somehow I felt I had to do it myself.

Btw:  I hope you haven't been too badly affected by the hurricane, Bill.

Such a shame Russell. She was a beauty.☹️ But think of it as one chapter closes and another will open for you. Start planning the next build!

Dodged a bullet with this one, well, maybe a "graze" that, at most, flicked away a few dander flakes.  My town was almost straight in line with the storm for awhile, but veered just enough east that we got some impressive rain (not much worse than a typical southern summer thunder shower we usually experience) and the wind gusted at maybe (?) 50 mph off and on.  Shoot, I lost power for only 4 hours, 5 minutes.  Several years ago my town had a storm that left me without power for 9 days.  And I was one of the "lucky" ones.  (Thankfully, no significant damage to my property from that one, either.)

So, yeah, my block was very fortunate.  I have not driven around to gawk at damage elsewhere.

Russell, this is so sad to hear.

I truly hope you will build another TARDIS when the time is right.

Did you manage to save anything which could be recycled into a new build?

Heart felt commiserations Russel. I hope you are soon able to replace both the Youth Centre and the Box.
 Good luck.

It's too bad you didn't know it was in such shape before you started taking it down or you could've gotten in one last cosplay:  That scene from "The Avengers".  Send the old girl out with a bang.
