I don't know how this happened.  ::)

Let's just agree to never press a big red button no matter how tempting it is.

I wonder if the manual had a set of instructions on what to do when a TARDIS throws you out.

It might be too late. Let's hope it's not a long way down.

To be continued...maybe. That's all for now.

if you need help with getting it accurate i have accurate line drawings of the box

I think this looks spot-on as it is, no work needed for "getting it accurate". :)

I'm loving every update to this build, LMC!! Your renders really bring the models to life!

Thank you so much. I'm really glad to hear that. Looking back, I really think my series 10 boxes are accurate enough so I think I'm going to say my series 10 boxes are officially done. I'm glad you like every update. One day, I hope to figure out 3-D animation software so my boxes can look more alive.

That looks great!
I speak to you from the final days of Gallifrey. I am the past you have forgotten. You are the future I will not live to see...

It seems the TARDIS is fine after all those explosions. She has landed on a random street with the doors slightly open.

I wonder what the interior will be like. Just thinking about all the possibilities of what it might be is making me turn into a mad man. It can be anything. Only time will tell. Or someone goes forwards in time for a sneak peek.

That's all for now.

Since my last update, I have been experimenting with the wood material on the JW box. I noticed while going through many reference photos that the paint material on my virtual box isn't as reflective as the real box. So I have been testing with the material and these are the end results.

So far, I think the box looks slightly more realistic than it was before. I'll what what else I can do to improve my rendering skills.

That's all for now.

Which engine are you rendering in?  Right now you are rendering your object in a non-real environment - an abstract, uniform sky/gradient dome.  This will never yield realistic results.  If your engine supports it, switch to HDRI lighting - ideally a non-clamped, wide-dynamic range map like the type you might find at hdrihaven.com.  No matter what, you must present realistic lighting and objects/environment for your reflective surfaces to reflect - whether they're rough (diffuse) or smooth (highly specular).  Hope that helps!

Wow... and I thought "Tech-Who-babble" and "Treknobabble" were hard to follow! :P

Oh, CG rendering is great for technobabble.  Here's a real thing I wrote to a friend today:

"I switched to the VCM integrator to resolve the caustics and subsurfaces more efficiently, but the convergence was so slow on high-reflectance diffuses it almost wasn't worth it.  I'm returning to path tracing and will denoise the occlusion, SSS, and indirect speculars as AOV's to be modified in post after the fact."

And you thought reversing the polarity of the neutron flow was complex.

Scarfwearer

Elevated levels of locally targeted domain-specific terminology and abbreviation can accelerate the transfer of specialised intelligence between co-located domain experts in any technical context, given an appropriate level of common vocabulary and a mutual shared knowledge base. It's also hard to follow.
One of my self-appointed jobs in my technical background has been jargon-buster... ;)

I bet you could have a lot of fun trolling people if you were a tech support.

"Hello? My computer keeps crashing, I don't know what to do!"
"Well, have you tried reversing the polarity of the neutron flow?"
"What?!"
"...Have you tried turning it on and off again?"

I wish I could understand even just one word of that! ;D

Yet another beautiful render, LMC!

Well, it has taken me about 3 months to answer your question Mverta. Let's just say my answer got lost in time. Or my brain. Which ever sounds more believable  ;). I model my boxes in Google SketchUp which I have been using since I was 11...time flies. I render the models in Kerkythea which I'm still new to so I don't really know what it is fully capable of. When I say "realistic" I mainly mean descent images. I when I say "decent", I mean the best to my abilities.

It sure has been a busy summer so far. I have been doing a bit of tweaking with my Type 97 Mark 2 box.
clsoe up.jpgside.jpg
Instead of shoving the box into a dark room, I thought it would look better outside.
morning.jpgtop.jpg
I have also been experimenting with the box lighting.
night front.jpgNight.jpg

Changes done to the box

  • Made the text in the top signs slightly smaller.

  • Rounded the edges to have less sharp edges on the box. That way the sunlight reflects of them slightly better.

  • The windows are still see through but not as transparent as before.

And I have been using different sky textures which were part of the rendering software. Not sure why I hadn't used them before until now. My brain my still be lost in time. One day I'll find it. It's only a matter of time.  :D

That's all for now.

Yet again, I have been tweaking with my Type 97 Mark 2 box. This box has had quite the journey with many changes along the way. Presenting Type 97 Mark 2 Version 4.

Changes done to the box

  • I believe the most obvious change is the white lamp frame. Though it was originally an experiment, I think I might keep it white as I believe it stands out more.

  • While viewing previous versions of the box, I thought the panels looked too square. So I stretched them and placed them evenly on the doors and walls.

  • I also made the posts slightly thinner as they looked a bit bulky on previous versions.

She has recently materialized on a pyramid of 15 steps.

Finally, an image of the box glowing golden. I think a Timelord was regenerating not far away.  ;D
