Starting with http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=1988.0 as my basis I drew up 3D AutoCAD plans. I really don't need a full 3D solid model of the thing but I enjoy playing around with it. I have started the build with my table saw (with a crosscut sled) and router table as the main tools. I am using mostly 1/4" dimensioned poplar boards that I picked up from Home Depot. Without a bandsaw, jointer or planer I could not cut my own from rough sawn lumber, so this was what was easily available.

Here is an overview of the project in AutoCAD

I will try to post more AutoCAD pictures and actual build pictures of the build so far over the next few days.

Here is a picture with the jewellery box in it's open position.

I used the table saw and sled for the dado and rabbet cuts. The miters were done on the router table.

Here is the jig I made for routing out the panelling. It worked reasonably well to remove most of the material. I then used a chisel to clean it up. They still need some sanding to smooth out a little more

Assembling the rear section

Rear and two front sections together. The corners are simply stock pine moulding. I am going to have to make the corners beads longer, I forgot to consider the roof when I cut them. I also did a test of the blue stain I plan on using and the colour matches just fine between the poplar and the pine.

That's as far as I have got so far with the build. I pondered for quite a while about how to do the roof. I considered hinging the top so it would not interfere with access to the top drawer, also a removable lid over three extra storage boxes atop each main section. However I decided on splitting it into three sections like the rest of the Tardis. Unfortunately this will mean visible seams, but it should be the easiest to build.

I bet this will be a beautiful piece when its done.

Wow... I've not yet got beyond the planning stages of my TARDIS (guitar building and kitchen Renovations are getting in the way) however I am familiar with router work (pockets in my guitar for pickups etc)... Man are you crazy routering out those panels? :-D

I have to say though. The results are clearly worth it. She's looking fantastic already. Its a great piece of carpentry :-)

Finally a chance to get back to work on this project. Cutting lots of pieces for all the drawers. Will post some more pictures soon.

I made the drawers shorter than the box so I can attach some sort of handle to them without interference when the box is closed.

All pieces are done. The roof took a lot of work and a custom jig on the table saw. I even kept all of my fingers.

Looks quite Tardisy now. The sign and windows are just printed on regular paper and stuck on and covered with varnish.

DSC_0601.jpg
Really pleased with how it is looking.

DSC_0602.jpg
Still needs a light sanding and another coat or two of varnish.
