Ah... and now that you mention those two "items", continuing in the anti-clockwise direction, the next panel to the one you mention is missing two ping-pong ball lights. Standing at the panel's edge, there should be three lights, then the two above them for a total of five; this panel has only one light, making the total three.

Yellow circles show location of missing lights:

Hmmm... It's starting to look like they've missed quite a few things on this console.

Celation! You should definitely offered the use of yours! She's so much more accurate than this one!

Aw come on people. I think they've done a good job. We could have had something awful like in The Two Doctors. Also, in terms of the programme it is in, we might not even see those panels ;D

We will most definitely see those panels, I'd be surprised if that shot from the Trailer is not from the show ;)

Here's a behind the scenes article about it. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-11-20/mark-gatiss-takes-us-behind-the-scenes-of-doctor-who-drama-an-adventure-in-space-and-time

A couple of quotes of interest:
"Being such an anorak, I notice that the back of the set, a wall of glowing indentations, is actually a proper set wall rather than the long line of flat, photographic blow-ups of circles seen in the original An Unearthly Child. "We've been a bit kinder to it," says Mark. And you can't fault that, although they have allowed one small section towards the rear to be a 2D painted cloth, which he thinks would make great Tardis shower curtains." (Someone make this happen!)

"'The only thing we haven't been able to do is that enormous light in the ceiling. Couldn't afford it. We got as much as we could. We'll probably do it as a matte.' The control console is a sickly green, as it was in 1963 to render a more brilliant white on monochrome TV sets. But I notice one small omission: the floor is painted beige whereas it should have been mostly blue."

"Mark shows me the Menoptra masks, just painted, on a shelf. There will be no ant-like Zarbi, though. 'No, can't afford them. They're made of fibreglass and far too expensive.' I suggest that you probably couldn't pay an actor to wear one of those uncomfortable costumes now. He laughs: 'I know plenty of people who'd be delighted.'

'Actually,' he jokes, 'I feel let down by fandom because I assumed somebody would have made a Zarbi over the years and nobody bloody has!'"

The year-o-meter worked beautifully. IMHO.

Gosh, that was simply marvellous! Had a tear in my eye at the end  :'(

What's also worth mentioning is how damn good that set looked. It really appeared high-quality, well lit and functional. Having been on the current set, on screen this one looks to be more believably alien and complex! The lighting on it looked fantastic.
I didn't notice the light arrangements at the top were missing whilst watching it, the whole thing did seem more open somehow but I couldn't out my finger on it, I bet that was it. It's a real shame not to see it, but it's easy to sympathise with that particular budgetary concern.
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Kingpin

Strange, as I recalled comments saying it'd be added with cgi.

Despite that, it was an excellent... moving account into the origins of the show.  I hope David gets nominated for a BAFTA for it.

Fardels Bear

It was fabulous! ;D

David Bradley was extraordinary, and Jessica Raine was wonderful as well.

The Tardis set looked stunning - Mark Gatiss certainly got his wish to re-create the wow factor of it when it first appeared on the screen.

The whole thing had lovely touches - cyberman smoking a fag, and the shot from the bottom of the dalek with top going on was amazing.

I think I've had my defining 50th anniversary moment as well - the two in the tardis at the end. My tummy did that funny churn I haven't felt for years! ;D

I've not seen it yet, but it's tee'd up for tonight :)

No canopy do I hear? I just don't understand why they would need to CG a "Year-o-meter" in and not do the Canopy? I could have sent them my model........... :/

Ditto. (Maybe we should put this thread under the Spoiler tag until we're sure that it has aired everywhere?)

I personally think the year-o-meter made a lot of sense in the context of the programme, you two will have to wait and see!

As for the light canopy, I'll put my hands up and be honest - I didn't actually realise it was missing until after the programme had finished. I think I got absorbed with the story.

Ditto.

It was excellent in every regard.
