The Box on Wilson Street - A25

This is one of the Boxes that has been retained and is currently on the streets of Glasgow. It was recently moved from its original location on an island in the middle of the street (sandwiched between the stairways to the old Victorian below-ground public conveniences) when they renovated the area.

Here is how it looked before the recent refurbishment and resiting --

Here is a link to the original Wilson Street Box Refurb thread, which shows that when the box was refurbished it was actually replaced with a different box. It is this replacement box that has now been re-sited to the side of the road.

What do we know about this image?

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

I would lay money on that being a genuine Glasgow Police Box, but which one I can't say.

It has the chamfer instead of quarter rounding on the corner posts and the more narrow space for the "Police" sign.

I bet Starcross will know where this box was/is.

I'm wondering if this was for an idvert or something, can't figure out what the telephone is there for?

It's the Wilson Street box, back when it was on a traffic island in the middle of the street (IIRC it was the only Glasgow box that was stood on its own concrete plinth).

The only thing I know about this image is that it's awesome!!

Thanks for posting.

Can we narrow this down to a time period? When did this box look like this? I know Jon Worked for Vodafone [1996], Maybe this had something to do with that?

Well, Jon Pertwee passed away on May 20, 1996, and he was in Connecticut (USA) at the time. That date was on a Monday, and Pertwee was in CT for a convention, which would have been over the weekend of May 17-19. Given the convention started on Friday the 17th, Pertwee would have needed to travel on the 16th at the latest, though to be rested up (he was very energetic in just about every video I've seen of him at conventions), it's more likely he traveled to the US on the 15th: possibly even a few days earlier.

So we know at least the absolute latest date this photo could have been taken, would be May 14th 1996: the day before Pertwee traveled to the US, if he waited that late to travel across the pond. That said, I think it would have been taken earlier than that as he probably spent some time before departing to prepare. So, maybe sometime in early May (before the 10th?) 1996 could possibly be the latest date this photo was taken?

I'll let others work things back from here. (I do hope some of this is helpful in dating this photo.)

There's a box in the picture??  ???

Angelus Lupus

I wonder what the reason was for her being in costume, in Glasgow? Also, was a retro LCD calculator-watch always part of that costume? (maybe in line with Rory's weirdly back-dated hospital ID)
BTW, and FYI... if I'm reading/enhancing the image correctly, this was taken at 15:03, possibly on a Sunday.

I've just checked the character portraits taken for Eleventh Hour, and she *is* wearing a watch on that wrist, but it's the gold one she wears as a regular part of her costume that year, not the watch used for these images.

And when the costume returns for the 2010 Xmas episode, she's wearing the gold watch again, but win the other wrist.

I imagine the guy is a comedian, maybe he has a show, something about the faces he makes and the ..... the man is wearing a bow tie and tweed. Someone spent a lot of money on these photos.
