Battersea Park Road & Cabul Road Box

I was in Waterstones with Tom earlier today, and whilst I'm checking out the latest in Geek books, he's off in the transport section. He came over to me with a copy of London Transport Trams by Robert J Hartley, and opened the book at Page 11, asking me if "that" was one of the boxes that was on the forum...

Now Tom isn't a geek at all. Has no interest in Daleks or Blue Boxes, and had, purely by chance picked up the book at random and had been idly leafing through it. And in doing so, came across a new Box photo.

So, here we have W43, on the junction of Battersea Park Road and Cabul Road.
And here it is:


...and yes, I did buy the book. Its actually quite good. Loads of wonderful photos of trams and London streets.

There was a very large old church behind the Box when it was sited, but by the 1949 the church was gone so I can only assume it was a casualty of the war.

On a side note, it would appear that W43 was sited at the location of what was marked on a map as "Lavatories Trough & Drinking Fountain" (c1921). The Box was almost exactly where the old fountain and trough were, while the building seen immediately behind the Box is probably the same public lavatories, which appears to have still been there as of 1951.
