We know from this photo from Colony in Space that the zig-zag door frame is deeper than the Tardis doors....

colony katie in doors.jpg

I wonder then if the original intention was to somehow link the Tardis set with the inside of the Police Box prop (to create a kind of zig-zag shaped 'vestibule' against which the back of the Police Box doors could be attached). In that context, painting the zig-zag door frame white (like the inside of the Police Box) would help to 'sell the illusion' that the Control Room was somehow inside the Police Box.

What do we all think?

Tony

Had the 'buckets' still been attached when the above photo was taken, the edge of the door frame on that side of the wall would have been more or less flush with the backs of them.  I'm guessing the frame's extra depth was simply to hide the buckets on either side of the opened doors whenever the camera was looking out through them.

Well they did give it a try in the Pilot episode.

Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,

That's true.  Is it the only time the Police Box doors were visible from inside the set as far as we know?

I like the bit in The Sensorites where the camera follows the Doctor and co through the open doors and straight onto the spaceship set; gives that scene a real sense of wonder.

I think it was, if you don't count the two sixties movies which didn't have any other doors on the inside.

I've marked the points where I can't see any difference in the colour of the console from the colour of the upright with the letter A.

The more I look at this, the more convinced I am that the uprights between the photo roundel sections aren't green, but rather plain old gray.

If you compare the color of the upright to the midtoned areas of the roundel right next to it, it's visually the same color.

Rassilons Rod

I think the green is certainly on the grey end of the spectrum.

I found that in that photo, clicking around with the dropper tool puts it in the blue area of the colour chart. But the console is in red/yellow.

Other pictures both are in the red/yellow area... Not sure what this proves if anything, but even the console which is clearly green in these
photos doesn't appear in the green section when I click around with the dropper.

This is something that my painting teacher touched on extensively - color is not an absolute. It doesn't matter what the color on your brush is, as long as it "reads" as the color you want it to be, once it's on the canvas. And the color it reads as is determined by the colors that sit next to it.

There's an optical illusion which illustrates this. I'll include a copy:

I'm a bit confused by that. How can A and B be the same shade? That would mean we're not looking at a checker board...

Try using a colour picker with that image...

Tony, I think you're right about the Fault Locator parts. In episode one you can see that the scanner is in another piece and also in Episode 6 I noticed that it's also in the Master's TARDIS set with a different bezel around the screen.

I haven't rechecked the other episodes yet, but if I recall correctly there are more shots of the other piece used in the Doctor's TARDIS also in the Master's...

Crispin: will do :)

I used the colour picker and drew a rectangle over it:

This is exactly what I meant when I posted the pics from Inferno - depending on the lighting/exposure/colour-grading of the original film/quality of the source material (and how it has been restored) changes how our eyes see colour.
The green of the console seems to vary from a pale mint grey/green through almost no colour at all and then to a moss green. The Silvan green in Marc's renders (with the boxes) seems to share these same properties.
To my eye the upright is the same colour as the console and, if the designers have used this "very, very pale green" once, why not again?
Thanks to Rob, what we can say can say is that the floor was pale blue with a pale beige hexagon and that the inside faces of the zig-zag Tardis door frame was intended to be TX40.
The Mylands colour chart in this post http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=4139.msg47971#msg47971 would seem to indicate that Silvan Green, Glacier Blue and Dawn Glow as good candidates. But, in all honesty, that doesn't get us much further - from Rob's plans, what exactly is "pale"?
The chequer board is fascinating - how would this work in Silvan green?

I haven't got the faintest clue how to go about creating that effect with one colour. :/
