The Start of a New Console:
October 19th, 2011

I am currently making a TARDIS console for my YouTube fan series, "Doctor | Who"
Poster1tester.png

Without too much explanation, it is basically Doctor Who meets Steampunk. However, the TARDIS is not going to be Steampunked... I have a story line that is quite clever, at least I think it is. The pilot episode is written and now I must prepare all the props. The console is the first to be constructed.

I have looked at many, many versions of the TARDIS console and I determined that I wanted a combination of the nice wood TVM console with some classic series design and new series knick-knacks. I stumbled across Rob Semenoff's website when looking for a high quality TARDIS 3D model. Honestly, I found it.

His website had so many resources of 3D models I went crazy for a few hours. I found his page about recreating his own 3D TARDIS console model. He gave in-depth explanation of each part and why it was on a certain panel. I based by designs off of his and from what I needed from the TARDIS console. Here are my plans for each panel and the table base I have to work with:

The Octagon
It was the first readily available thing. It measures strangely because it was made out of an old pallet.

The Panels
I have included the measurements of the Octagon here. The reason I am only using four panels is to 1. Simplify my design; 2. Make dividing the 8 different sides evenly and 3. I don't need six panels.

What do the Numbers Mean?
Here is the explanation of the numbers:

   15. Keyboard - Coordinate Input
   16. Activation Knob

The Hunt For Junk

If you looked at my plan, you would notice I have lots of sliders, switches, LED lights and buttons. I also some random keyboards, maybe a screen, and a telephone.

I currently have come across, in my house alone:

A Typewriter

and A Rotary Phone

On eBay I have bought various switches, LEDs and buttons. Those will be coming in, in about a week or two. Most of it is being shipped from Hong Kong. I also found this very interesting bike thingy I think I can use for "Re-mat/De-mat" levers.

"But what are you going to put this blasphemous console on?"
Well non-believer. I will make something out of this!

At this point in the process I am looking for suggestions as I gather the money to buy the plywood and cut it.

Until next time...

should be interesting. I don't think it's blasphemous. every Tardis should be unique

They are bike brakes quite honestly. However, they will work perfectly, once I figure out to attach them.

It has been how long? Woops. :P Anyways, small update:

1. Lost that nice curved hollow piece. A friend had a rounded chair that fit perfectly into it, so I gave it to him. Needless to say I have working ever so hard on a new solution.

2. The Panels have changed slightly. I obviously don't have the money for all the screens I wanted, SO, to combat that I am currently figuring out real world solutions to what I want. I'll post an update to that soonish.

3. I am type of working to start working without a plan and hope for the best. That can't happen with this console.

---

New Goals:
* Make the inside of console as ACCESSIBLE as possible. I think I can achieve this.

* Figure out how to make a Time Rotor. You see, I want a classic series type rotor. Yet I don't know if I could manage the motor requirements for that.

Here are a few threads that might help you out with the time rotor issue, or at least give you some ideas to get you started:

There are also 8 pages of "Time Rotor" threads you can brows through, and you'll find the above threads in the list:

I hope this is at least a little helpful.
