It looks like there is something above the blue row of rectangle buttons in this image. * also I can just make out something white at the end of the blue row that could be a light.- It could be another rectangle with a light above and below it. If only the camera angle didn't obscure the view of this panel.
why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Oooh, that's a point, on the original diagram that I did, there was one panel without the white box bit to the right of the "k9 switches"....

Perhaps that was either a late addition.... Or then my symmetry theory is also a load of old tosh.
In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

Please excuse my butchery of your diagram, Nate... But could it possibly have been something like this?

I really feel that the whole room was designed with a symmetry not present in any of the other console rooms... Even the layout of the walls is done totally symmetrically.

Always feel free to alter my art to make a point.  ;D

I know the Doctor is flaky at times, but in this diagram we see the Doctor would have gone out of his way to get paper and pen if the arrangement were as you suggest.

Yeah, but they would have wanted the writing desk to be visible on screen ;)

Tony, I love Frontios.... But I have to say I cannot for the life of me think why you mention it here :D

Like Easter, the console's panels seem to be a moveable feast! In Frontios we see two panels with the TV monitors fitted immediately adjacent to each other rather than having alternating panels.

My attempt at humour with regards to tracking down the second writing slope!

Ah right - that old nugget. Yes you're quite right. They also did that with the Baker/Davison console...

But I'd be surprised with this one:

a) cos it's so small
b) because the writing desks MUST have been fixed... Surely?

I was making a joke - we don't seem to have made our minds up where the second writing slope is, not because it had been moved!  ;)

Rassilons Rod

Well I got that you weren't totally serious, but I thought you were talking about other panels moving......

I've said this before, but I think they made 2 hero panels of buttons , 1 desk and 1 cardboard insert with painted on buttons. I think they just swapped the panels around as needed. I think the desk was in a fixed position they just rotated the console around for Robots of Death.

So you reckon there was actually an empty slot?

I think there were 2 empty slots. I think there was only 1 writing desk.
