If dapol can get away with a 5 sided console then I think you can too.  I like to see custom console designs.  It's looking good so far.

Oh, aagh. I'm sure I remember at least one or two at the quay. Where Boxes/The Warehouse is. And along under the arches near there too, beside the river.

Couple more photos as the build progresses - still having trouble finding "old" bits to dress the console with - need a couple of smallish clocks and some ex telephone exchange swtchies to complete

That's a rather beautiful and subtle Seal of Rassilon  on the base there... and the console looks gorgeous!

actaully it's knda donald ducked as I had to stencil it using two stencils, one for the seal and one for the circle surrounding it . Needless to say I got the outer circle out of position! :-[

There is another version of the seal without the outside circle on the console centered under the bankers lamp. It is my intention to make that area less cluttered as a place where manuals and papers can be placed - script necessitates this

Not going to bad and it wil look good on film

By the way, wht's with the Wombles references?

Wombles - the answer's in the Off topic section....

it's a lovely build.  I'm deeply fond of your console already.  *happy sigh*

Looking very nice! It's a nice piece of furniture, quite apart from being a console.

Charity shops sometimes have odd things which might be useful. I don't know whether there are still amateur radio rallys, but they may be another place to look - they used to have stalls with stuff for sale.

Sorry been out for a couple of days - along with a Dalek that's giving me some gyp at the moment!!

Anyway, had a  bit of luck with some old fashioned radio test equipment from a vintage radio site - relatively cheap too, got a couple of nice looking panels to fit, just waiting for them to arrive. I'll let you know how it goes when they are fitted

Got the electronics up now too - well on the breadboard! have yet to migrate it to the console.

What a beautiful console well done

and what a cool idea puting a big old variable resistor on it was, it suits it really well and that lamp to pure genius.

P.s do you mind posting the addres of the vintage radio site it could relly help my planned console

I would have posted the vintage radio address last time but I lost it!!However  after a bit of history searching here it is:-

http://www.crowthornetubes.com/

I found what I was  looking for amongst the old test equipment.

What really surprises me though is that you have all been kind enough not to mention that you realised my central column is actually the dust collector from a Hoover cyclone vacuum cleaner!! ;D

Oh wow! That's exactly the kind of site you want if you're building a McGann console!

I really wish I could get close-up shots of some of the McGann panels. I've got virtually every publicity pic and screen cap of that console, and still some bits are hazy. Hmph.

The bits arrived from Crowthorne tubes and have been added on!

Another 3 coats of varnish as well. Some of the electronics have been transfered

All in all not looking too bad ;D

All I need to get now is a garden syringe!

That looks fabulous! You're really going to have to panel a room now, aren't you? :)
Would love to see more pictures...

D'you have plans to hook up those instruments?

Oh and uh, nice Dice!
