And for those of you with 3D glasses here is one of the 3 images. I just LOVE the 3D - 3D!! The area below the console really works with the 3D effect. I also have the other 2 images as 3D if anyone else wants I can post those too.

LOL @ "Fornicator Room" love it! :D Why that? :D

Personally I feel that the console part would be better without the original levers from the Brachacki console, and I think it would fit with your "wanting more junk" on it. :) But I really like seeing the old pillars, downlighters and fault locator :)

And I the garden store hex bins are one thing I ADORE from the new console room. For some reason, I really feel them as an echo of the black wallpaper walls.

I love 3D too, but prefer crossing my eyes with stereo pairs... :)

D'you have a recommendation for a red/green stereo image maker, or is it all built into your 3D suite?

This is Brilliant sir!  I love the blending of the elements from various eras here.  I have been a fan of your console for years, and it looks right at home here!

my god!! has it been 8 years? Really? WOW! So I decided to update it borrowing more from the newest series elements. I am also updating the library and lab/workshop areas that are off to the sides. I also have these images in Red-Blue 3D if you want to see.

To be honest, I like it and yet I don't like it.  I like the overall use of space, from the dome ceiling all the way to the "under-the-console" bits under that grating.   It is very much like several of my own hand drawn concept art.   I love the use of some of the new series bits and bobs thrown into the classic series vibe you have.   However there are some things that just don't jive for me.  The new series roundels (hexels) on the ceiling dome, to me they sort of clash with the old school roundels   And the floor grating, on the main part of the room it looks a bit out of place compared to the rest of the room.  All that gleaming white and a dirty/rusty looking iron grating floor.   Now don't get me wrong, it looks great around the raised area where the console is, but with the walls and everything looking so nice and clean the floor looks a bit wrong to me.  Now you could go with the Matt Smith clear glass floor, that would bring things together from a design standpoint.  I agree with what rassilonsrod said about the McGann girders turning into the 80's style pillars, that is a stroke of genius.   All in all I think it is a great update.  Keep it coming.

As an aside note I really need to learn how to create stuff in something other than Sketch-Up.

;D

Overall I like it, though I have to say that the old style time rotor with the new style section extending underneath looks a little strange.
I think if you are going to use the underside section you kind of have to have a rotor that goes to the ceiling.

Just my thoughts, that said it's better than anything I could hope to produce so well done!

This is like major TARDIS porn. ;) ;)  I think this should be made as the official 50th anniversary TARDIS console room.  Anyone want to twitter this thread to Steven Moffat?

handofomega: I think you might be right about the metal grill-work floor being too dark. I wanted it because it was in the 2005 redesign, but yes it is too dark. I'll see how the Smith style floor looks. At least for the lower grill part.

As much as I like some of the things with the Smith room it doesn't feel TARDISy to me. Even the outside.

To me the TARDIS is a dirty and battered old police box in a junk yard. Inside it is clean and white to contradict the outside. A technology confusion with miss-matched things from different time periods and alien cultures thrown about. But no matter how much furniture and junk around it always comes back to the clean, sterile, antiseptic white of an alien time machine. At least in the console room part.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. I do agree that glass floors around the console would look more in line with the rest of the room though. And I would love to see the central column extended to the ceiling, but that's just nit picking. Overall, an awesome job.  :D
Farewell Sarah Jane, you will be missed.

Yeah I like the Matt Smith console room basically because it is finally something different.  Some nice design elements, but the whole thing together just doesn't work.

The lower floor is what really REALLY wretched at my eyes when you first posted your updated console room interior.   The iron grating is far too dark for, as you put it; "the clean, sterile, antiseptic white of an alien time machine."   I was thinking the Matt Smith room's flooring with white support bars underneath the glass.  It would tie it altogether.

I mentioned the ceiling dome "hexels" because the lower roundels look so good and the theme could be carried onto the ceiling.  Not necessarily the mismatched pattern of the rooms roundels but their shape, colour and lighting with the placing and resizing of the new series "hexels".

Rob, Love the design,  I hope you don't mind I am borrowing a some insipiration off of your 2002 console for one of my panels.  I am sure you can see which one if you look at my build thread karsten's Console.  Awesome work.  I personally love the high tech feel of that console room yet it maintains the classic elements as well.
I want notes, lists and answers by the time I finish this here Juicy-a-Box! WARNING: I am Thirst-ay! And it is Fruit Punch! And it is Delicious!"
