my god!! has it been 8 years? Really? WOW! So I decided to update it borrowing more from the newest series elements. I am also updating the library and lab/workshop areas that are off to the sides. I also have these images in Red-Blue 3D if you want to see.

As not much of a fan of the new series consoles/rooms, I have to say that I really like what you've done with the 2005 console, mixed with 60's elements for the fault locator :)

I'm staggered, really. That is just... perfect. I am looking at that room and I am seeing the console room that I have always hoped for lol, well, it it was me there'd be more orange in their lol, closer to the new series Tennant, and probably a more Smith oriantated console, but really, what you have created here is genius. I wich I could made stuff like this. What did you use to make it? I once tried to learn how to do one in Blender but I got as far as making a square block... I couldn't finad a tutorial for me... The Smith lights above the door and the heart below the console are alos lovely thouches.
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

This is absolutely mind blowing!! I'd LOVE to see the production team go to the sort of lengths this kind of detailed work would require! I have to admit to being a bit of a Trekkie but also love anything else done well, and your design shows some serious planning and detail. The control panels also the (I'm guessing here) lab room look appropriately high tech. The cobbled together look of the current TARDIS console is somewhat disappointing to me. I mean, what the hell would a brake master cylinder be doing on a spacecraft??? And a petrol bowser pump?!?!?  Bring back the tech!!! :-)

That's what the current series console room should look like, absolutley brilliant!
Farewell Sarah Jane, you will be missed.

This looks smashing - really liking it. I have to say I'm also much more a fan of the high-tech look, though I also like the more elaborate multi-level room from the latest series, so what you've done here really plays to all that. I'm not so keen on walking on glass or metal grids - I went up the CN tower in Toronto once and couldn't bring myself to step out on to the glass floor. :o

Just a note to new readers: the forum fits pictures to your browser window, so if you maximize your browser you can get a much better look at this.

I agree with all the above! I wish the BBC would have embraced the original look and expanded it on a scale such as this! This looks way more impressive and technical than the current and previous versions.

Now that I am not on my phone anymore I can see more of this than I have noticed before...

I really like the way the (McGann-movie style) pillars drop into the 80's style pillars. It works really well! :)

Also, can't quite see in these pics, but are those the garden-store hexel buckets in the overhang that goes around the room at the top of the angled walls?

Superb work Rob - once again... Why didn't they hire YOU when Ed Thomas quit (or before they built the new room)??????

Looks fantastic!  I think the show could use some of the ideas this forum has... seems to me they have better style than the show's designers.

Now THAT is the ultimate console room....I want it on the show now!!!!!
I love that it s a progression of every single console room and definately the way the BBC shoul turn next time...
BRILLIANT

Thanks for the comments! Yes those are the garden-store hex buckets running along the underside ledge. I had to get those in there somewhere  :D

I found a few more test renders that I did.

Powerful, simple and inspiring! Just like our favourite show!
Top work mate! :)

Here is the fault locator room (or the 'fornicator' room as I call it ). I want the console to be a little more junky or at least disorganized. The monitor slides left or right along that black groove. The middle floor panel comes out so you can use the ladder (thats hard to see) to access the area below
