Hi, A few months ago (well, before christmas) then I attempted to build a TARDIS exterior, so I bought the wood and it came to £50 (cheap yeah!) so i started cutting away and, as all my projects it came to a halt pretty quickly. The 2 pieces of wood sat in our shed for 8 months, and now finally, i'm going to continue! to make the job simpler, I'm only making 3 sides to it, and covering the 3rd side with black material! the plans i'm using are the 1st doctor's BUT if i'm careful, i am going to make it so that i can remove the 2 signs and replace them with the right colour/writing (also a st. John's ambulance sticker if required) so I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice/tips?

thanks,

Well, sound interesting, and I'd like to help you, as I'm sure many other people on here are, but it's quite hard from your post to understand exactly what/how you are building it. It'd be nice if we could have some pictures, and helpful in the way of advice.
Thanx :)
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

Meaure twice, cut once.  More advice available if you have more info about your build to share. :)

Ok, so you are building Hartnell's TARDIS, but only 3 sides... I am assuming that the side you are going to cover with black material is the back, and that you will be putting it against a wall or something so the back won't show which is why you're doing it this way.
Creating signs that you can switch out the graphics on is a simple enough task if you plan ahead and there are several St. John's Ambulance graphics available on the forums here, the search button is your friend in this instance.

Help and advice is always forthcoming on the forums, you have but to ask specific questions on the areas you need advice and a wealth of information usually flows forward from our experienced members.

Thanks for the advice, I know I could make it much clearer, I mean I will have the front panel and the 2 side panels joined together and attached to it's firm (there will also be a roof in the future). I will then pin black cloth to to 4th panel (or the one at the back) and hopefully, if I pull it all together, it might stightly resemble some sort of box with 'police' written all over it! :)

Thanks

It's like a beefed up Newbery box.

Well, I'm glad it resembles at least a little bit of one of the models, I build the roof without thinking so I turned it into a bad version of the Newbery box...I can still change it!

DoctorWho8

Hey if you want, I could photoshop it to make it look like the Newbery prop.  Just need a nice full resolution image of it.

To give my brief opinion, I think that it's good, but the windows need to be altered. I think that if you correct your current windows, so that the width of the outside panels match that of the inside, the whole thing will look much better and you really will be on to a winner. Really, the rest of the box so far looks good, very good. I think you've accidentally made a very nice cross between the Hartnell and the Newberry, and it really works well, and I think if you continue the style for the rest of the box, it will look abseloutly fantastic! :D I'm sorry to say it's just the outer panels of those windows that let it down :( It that were correcter this box really would be something ver nice indeed!

yeah, I did the windows really quickly and using blue wire insulator (or whatever it's called)! So they are one  of the things that need improving...

AAAAHHH! STorm!!!!!! My TARDIS has collapsed! I managed to get it to the shed but It needs a major operation...

Luckily it was in ok condition, but all the panels off the front had blown in all directions...
