Things are FINALLY getting started! ;D

Last week I made a rough facsimile of my beacon....

and today I started framing the base!

I only stopped to post because it is HOT out there right now!

Well...my wish for things to cool-down just came true in the worst way!! :(

About the time that I had gotten things to this point...

and was about to start adding the chamfer to the outside pieces...it began to suddenly pour-down rain!!!

I managed to get everyting indoors before it got too bad, but it looks as if the afternoon is shot!!

congratulations on starting your build. yep this time of year the humidity gets so bad it can't help but to storm in the afternoon. good luck with the build

Nice start!  cant wait to see this build develop.

Thanks guys!

If the end product looks anywhere near as good as the results that the two of you have had, I'll be happy!

Off to a great start!

When my build was going, I would often battle the elements too, and not just when you started, in teh middle of something that you were going good on, suddenly a few drops would start.

Looking forward to seeing it develop!

Thanks!

So do I! ;D

Hopefully, time, budget, and the elements will all work in my favour soon!

Things I learned finising-up my base:

1.  Taking into account the 1 1/2" for one 2"x4" is great, but taking into account the 3" that are TWO 2"x4"s will prevent your base from being a slightly rectangular object, that you will have to go back & fix!!!

2.  Compound mitre saw + table saw = greatest things since sliced bread.  There, I said it.

3.  A twisted piece of lumber can seriously ruin, not only, your afternoon, but also your generally sunny disposition.

4.  Measure twice cut once...feh....that stuff's fer rookies!  Now why isn't this lining-up?

5.  When you get the casters on, you may think to yourself, "Ooh...wicked-cool giant skateboard!"  DO NOT ACT ON THIS THOUGHT!!!!!! (Don't ask.)

6.  You can break a LOT of other laws, but not Murphy's.

It has been an interesting process so far, and I'll post pics soon.

LOL both useful and extremely funny ;D ;D
try building in the British climate, you learn to pack away VERY quickly ;)

Good luck with the build though...a great start :)

Thanks!

That climate and I are old acquaintances, we used to live in Portsmouth (Go Pompey!! ;D) when I was a kid.
