Hey guys,

This is my first time building a Tardis of any kind and well I've decided to start with my favourite Box which happens to be the prop from Doctor Who and Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD.

To start off I want to get the Pull To Open sign made and the Police Public Call Box signs but have no idea what the font type is or how to make them? so any help there would be great.

Also looking to find out what the colour of the box as it seems to be nice and shiny in one scene but then dull and matte in the next scene?

Any and all help is appreciated so thank you very much.

Welcome to TARDISbuilders.
The Cushing prop is one of my faves too!
Not sure about the font question, but re: paint, I'd definitely go gloss!
I've had my box both matt and glossy and I prefer the second one by miles.
Btw:
When adding photos you have to upload them, but then there's an extra step of inserting them, which will ensure they come out clear rather than "ghosted".
Hope that helps.
Good luck with your build.
Look forward to seeing your progress.

Right okay thanks for that, do you by any chance know what the name of the paint or is it a custom mixed paint?
As for the font thanks for that hopefully someone knows about that to be honest. Also does anyone know where to get a Fresnel lamp from?

I wouldn't worry about nailing the blue too much to be honest with you - the way blue looks changes so much! Just pick a dark blue that you like.

As for the fonts, on this forum there are lots of files for the pull to open sign and the police public call box sign too
Oh my giddy aunt!!

Thanks very much for that, unfortunately I can't find any of the files for the pull to open and police public call box signs

Yeah, I noticed that.  The board got hacked a few years back and they were able to restore it onto new software but a lot of the cool tools we had got lost in the transition and the graphics seem to have been some of those things.  I'll see what I've got on my hard drive.  Although I think I just used MS Arial for the POLICE BOX signs.  But I should have the accurate phone door sign somewhere.

The paint I used was Oxford blue from wilcos.
It's v dark, but that's just the way I like it!
I found a fresnel in an Antique shop.
I'm always rummaging around and knew I'd get lucky eventually!
If you need one a bit faster then I guess Ebay will be your best bet..
Hope that helps.

As far as paint, I agree with Oxford blue (if you live somewhere like the UK, where they know what Oxford blue is and the paint guy won't just give you a blank stare and point over to the sample cards).  I agree that getting the color right isn't *that* important because of how much the color changes in different lighting.  Also agree with semigloss over flat.  To all this, I will add that it has been impossible for me to go too dark on the blue.  You want the darkest blue that isn't black.  Especially for an outdoor box where there's sunlight.  I've bought blue that looked perfect on the chip and even in the can and once it was on the box and dry I'd think "it looks like the '70s TARDIS."  On the other hand, I've bought a blue that, when putting it on, I was thinking "Oh, I've made a horrible mistake.  This is way too dark."  And when it's dry I still wish it was a darker shade.  This is especially true with the Cushing box or a replica of a police box in 1960s paint (IMO).
