Hello people of the TARDIS Builders forum, I hope you're all doing well! This is my first post on this forum I'm reletively new here so, I apologise if I make a mistake! I wanted to show off my go at 3d modelling TARDISes myself. I'm using Blender to 3d model & it's something which I've wanted to do for a while, though it gets very complicated.

Anyway, I decided to 3d model the 1st Doctor box from Twice Upon a Time (2017) and so far it's going well. However, I'm stuck on UV Unwrapping the roof and, since this is going to be used in 3d renders and animations, I'm not sure whether to bevel the edges of the roof or leave them as it is. If I bevel them it could complicate the UV Unwrapping stage and I'm kind of stumped at the moment. If there's any Blender users out there in this forum, I was wondering if you're able to help me out on this situation?

Hey all everyone, I'm going to be 3d modelling the 13th Doctor's TARDIS. I'm interested to see how it'll come out...although I'm afraid as I find 3d modelling TARDISes a bit challenging but I'm going to give it a go, anyway. Practice right?

Thank you! I'll do my best to keep active here, I've an update on my Twice Upon a Time 1st Doctor Box, sadly it didn't turn out as I expected...however, I'm hoping to improve.

Hey everyone, a slight update from me, I'm having trouble finding the updated plans, as there are several of them during my search in this forum of the 13th Doctor's TARDIS Box. I was wondering if anyone could link me with the most updated one with the top elevation displayed too? I want to try and model the box as accurately as I can.

Thanks

Hey all, another update from me, I've found a TARDIS plan which could work. I'm afraid I can't attach a screenshot in this post...so I'll look into that if it's possible.

Ahh i think I've attatched the screenshot right?

Hello all!

It's been a while hasn't it?

I've been busy with life but, I've managed to find time in working on the 13th Doctor's TARDIS!

The modelling stage of the TARDIS is done, and I'm on to the texturing.

I'd love to show you the results but this forum has a 512kB file limit so, I'll post an Imgur link instead;

Hello everyone, it has certainly been quite a while since I last posted! 😅 Things have been busy for me however, I've been making an effort to get better at 3d modelling TARDIS exteriors.

From my last post, I mentioned that I've been working on the 13th Doctor TARDIS Exterior. I've decided to put that on hold for now and work on the 1st Doctor Brachacki Box as seen from An Unearthly Child (or at least that's what I think it's from, I noticed there have been some variations of the Brachacki Box during the Hartnell & Troughton era. My prop knowledge is a bit slim so, I apologise in advance!).

The modelling went, really well and I'm now onto texturing the box. Here's what I've done so far (see screenshot). I'm quite happy with the weathering, it's not...completely accurate but, I'm willing to let that go. Maybe I could add something a bit more to it later in future.

Hey all, I've been plugging away at my 1st Doctor's TARDIS Box again!

I've added the signage and textured the windows, I wasn't sure how to make a glass texture in Substance Painter (which is what I used to texture the TARDIS).

I did look at some tutorials but they didn't work for me so I decided to make them glow, which isn't accurate to the prop from An Unearthly Child but it looked interesting to me.

I also added the "Police Public Call Box" signage around the top and a sort-of weathered-dirt texture to it to add that dirt effect. So far, I'm really happy with it, despite the inaccuracies I've made!

I exported the textures and brought them over to Blender and did a quick render of it to see what it looks like and here it is;

There's still a bit left to do though but it's almost done!

Let me know what you all think! 🙂

The dimensions look really good.  Colors too.  And all the little details.  I originally based my box on this prop, but couldn't bring myself to put the lock on the "wrong" side, among other things.  I actually like it better without the woodgrain, personally.  I don't really remember visible woodgrain on the original prop.  Varying degrees of texturing but no actual grain.  Just my 2 cents.

Many thanks for the feedback! Good call on the woodgrain. I thought it looked decent so I've kept it anyway. Maybe next time when I remake it or update the model, I'll possibly reduce the woodgrain. 🙂
