War of the Daleks was my first novel at 13 so I will defend to the end of time and end of time part two 😅

I have to confess I didn't read it! Nor many of the BBC EDAs. But I was a big fan of the New Adventures and the Targets before them.

Hi Francis,

Re: The rust on your hinges:

I got some rust on my cubby hole hinges too, plus, although my handles haven't rusted, the screws holding them in have.

The hinges, I just painted over with the gloss blue to protect them.

The screws I gave a dab of varnish on them, which should hopefully keep the air out so they don't rust any more.

Hope that proves useful.

Regards,

Russell

Options for rust are numerous:

1)A rust remover/oil like Break-Free CLP which is designed for cleaning guns, and a wire brush.
2)Sandpaper (in combination with CLP or Naval Jelly).
3)Naval Jelly
4)Nevr-Dull
6)They also make spray paint that claims to convert rust to a paintable primer surface.

Don't know if any of the above products are sold in the UK.

#6 would probably be the way I'd go because it is fastest and simplest and my time is precious.

Oh, or you could just let them rust and buy new hinges periodically.

There's some rust on one of the hinges of my phone panel. Can anyone advise on how to remove it and to prevent its return?

Thanks,

I think you'd have to take it off to do it. But there are a few ways.

1. You can buy rust remover. It's a liquid and I think it's pretty strong stuff.

2. You could just sand it off and polish it up with really fine sand paper and use some polishing compound to finish it off.

To protect it, you may need to put on some clear coat.

Hope that helps 😊😊

The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.

Forgot to say, rust removed.

Thorough visual inspection today; nothing to report (except for how dirty the rain makes it).

Second Anniversary Special

Yesterday was my wedding anniversary: a helpful way to remember that it's two years since the TARDIS materialised in our garden and time for a proper inspection. As with last year, almost nothing to report.

Every now and again we have bother with rats in the garden, largely due to next door having decking. This week another one has taken up residence and seems to be attacking the old girl (either that or the Process from Time's Crucible).

Covered the spot with sealant and am in any case planning on repainting the whole box in the next couple of weeks.

Hi there, congratulations on the build. I am planning on doing something similar. Can I ask what kind of wood/ply did you use?

Thanks!

Thank you, however I can't take the credit. Mine is a re-homed This Planet Earth replica.

40 odd years in the building trade, taught me a few tricks, chuck the hinges away and replace them with good quality brass ones, or replace them, but before fitting give them a couple of coats of aerosol laquer

Tin foil and white vinegar. Thats what I use to get rust off me motorbike. It works and its cheap! When I say 'tin' I should say 'aluminium'. Sort of thing you cook with. But yes, chuck the old rusted ones away and go for brass!!

Quote from: Jam Jar Lurker on May 05, 2020, 02:14 pmMy TARDIS came with some extras. There's the phone panel that I already mentioned.

As for the phone and the cupboard... For the moment I've decided not to include them. I have a three year old girl and a two year old boy who love the TARDIS. Should they accidently lock themselves in, we can quickly reach in through the phone panel and unlock the door (and see and reassure them). Plus, without the cupboard the panel lights up nicely. But not including them hurts...

Hi JJL. Regarding the phone hatch, have you considered making it open from the inside?

That way you could attach the cupboard and phone, but in an emergency, reach through and open the door from the inside, as it were.

Hi Lee,

That's a great idea. But I'm currently struggling to keep up with maintaining the TARDIS, the now three kids, and working full time. But I'll keep it mind.

Thanks,
Francis

Blimey Francis.

Sounds like you definitely have your hands full!
