Hello all. I've been away a little while but finally made a start on a console and possibly (hopefully) a console room too. I'm a little obsessed with the Hell Bent console so I'm going for a white console in that style. I will have to scale it down a bit but it should still be sizeable. I recently demolished a sizeable wardrobe and will use the wood from that for the panels. The spare wood/leftovers from my never built police box will hopefully make the base. Picture to follow.

Here is the frame for the console base.

So the width of the console will be 7 feet across as opposed to the 8ft standard as that is a little too big for my garage. The internal hexagon is 22 inches across. Its mostly scraps of wood so far and will be a true budget build as the panels will be salvaged from my sons old wardrobes. A little more sanding and I will be able to paint it a pristine white like the Hellbent console. I feel like a real Tardis builder now its taking shape!

Lots of filler included...IMG-20220718-WA0004.jpg

And again with extra filler. A Lytton says in Attack of the Cybermen, 'It simply isnt pinpoint accurate'...IMG-20220718-WA0002.jpg

And one more for good measure. Sanding on the hottest day of the year is not recommended.IMG-20220718-WA0001.jpg

Volpone

Everything in Dr. Who is bigger than you'd expect.  First house with a basement so I have hopes of finally doing a console room too but yeah, looking at the size of a screen accurate console, that's a non-starter.  I might even go down to 6' diameter (if I ever get around to doing it).  On a related note, other day I looked down the steps to the basement and was like "I SHOULD PUT A TARDIS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STEPS!  HOW DID I NEVER THINK OF THIS?!"  Answer:  I did.  It looks like there's plenty of space from above, but when you actually get out a tape measure and realize just how big a TARDIS--even just the facade--is, you realize the only way you can make it work indoors is to scale it down.

That looks awesome.
Looks like you have got off to a really good start.  ;D

Thanks Russell. It really is a 1 hour here, 1 hour there project at the moment when time is available. The garage needs to be emptied as I'm tripping over stuff at the moment. Then when I've got a space I can see what I can work with.

Volpone you are correct. The original props/console is huge at 8ft across and a Police box is even bigger. Worse is that the ceiling height is restricted to 8t approx but thats workable at least.
You really get a sense of respect for the original builders who made a prop that was wheeled out week after week and still looked decent over the years.

First undercoat on. Probably needs at least 3.IMG-20220727-WA0002.jpgIMG-20220727-WA0003.jpg

While snooping around a poundstore (nothing is just a pound in there anymore!!) I found these stick-on led vanity lights that should make some pretty good ping-pong ball lights that dot around the console. I will get some more after I open up the case and have a look to see if they will still light up or be dummy lights. £3 eachIMG-20220727-WA0004.jpg I think they dont look too bad.

3rd layer of undercoat is on and it looks very even. I also saw in Wilkinsons for 35p each these 3 metal fileholders which I will cut up and use for the speakergrills on each panel.IMG-20220829-WA0000.jpgIMG-20220829-WA0001.jpgIMG-20220829-WA0002.jpgIMG-20220829-WA0003.jpg
