Here is the lamp painted, and also you can see the color blue I have chosen.

I bought this from an ebay auction. I paid $35.35 for it. To me, this is by
far the hardest part to acquire for any TARDIS builder. Now all I need is a
TARDIS to go underneath! That will be coming soon I hope!

fresnel_side

As you can see, it is 5.5 inches tall.

fresnel_top

...and roughly 5.5 inches in diameter.

compare

I acquired a second lens that is about an inch taller than the first lens.
The diameter is roughly the same, although the lips at each end are different
. The taller lens has quite a bit of damage to the face and rim as you can see
. I will most likely try both and go with the one that looks better in the end
.

target1

Here's the look I'm going for in my build, with perhaps a slight variation. I
know some people think that the season 18 prop has no character, but it's my
favorite for some reason.

From this photo, I'm judging that the quarter round is at least 1", which
differs from the 3/4" that most everyone else is using. I can't find any this
large, so I'm going to make my own using a 1" roundover bit and a router.

Plan1
You cannot see attachments on this board.
This is my initial plan for the walls and posts.
LordPresident 25/06/2004

parts
You cannot see attachments on this board.
Here are all the parts used to construct the lamp. The plywood pieces are 1/4
" with groves and bevels cut with a router. The threaded brass rods are 1/4",
and the copper tubing is 1/4" I.D.

dome
You cannot see attachments on this board.
The dome of the lamp is made from a GE soccer "touch light". The dome shaped
piece was removed from the light, and the rest discarded.

lamp1

Here's the assembled lamp before painting. I promised to give my mother-in-
law credit for helping me with the design. Thanks Cheryl!

lamp2

Assembled lamp from another angle.

Router Jig
You cannot see attachments on this board.
I made a router jig to allow the cutting of the corner detail. The bit is a 1" roundover.

End View - corner post
You cannot see attachments on this board.
Here is an end-view of one side of the corner post. The corner detail has
been cut in each side, now it has to be run through the table saw to trim the
excess.

Table saw

Here I'm trimming the excess from the corner post.

Posts
You cannot see attachments on this board.
Two finished sides of the corner posts.
LordPresident 13/07/2005

Closeup

Closeup of the corner post.

Posts2
You cannot see attachments on this board.
Here's a side view of the partial corner posts. It seemed like it took
forever to make these. I've got all 8 done though, so now it's on to the walls
.
LordPresident 13/07/2005

wall1
You cannot see attachments on this board.
One finished wall with posts attached. For some reason, I mounted the posts 3.
5 inches from the recessed panels. I knew it was supposed to be 3 inches, but
apparently I had a lapse of sanity. I'll have to re-mount them correctly
tomorrow.

wall1a

Here's a back view of my first finised wall with posts attached. This thing
is heavy!
