Cost of each of the TARDIS interior sets

Hi all,

I'm wondering whether anyone has any definitive information as to the cost of building the TARDIS interior sets.

I believe the original Brachacki interior cost £5000 to build, which is the equivalent of ~£110,000 today; and famously the TVM interior cost around $1million. But I have no idea how much the Coral, Copper, Toyota, and Crystal sets for the new series cost, or any of the other sets, like the Secondary Console Room from season 14 or the one introduced in The Five Doctors. Does anyone know?

You're welcome mate, it's actualy à very good question, i genuanly want that pièce of trivial, how ever much use full it will be X)

I kinda think, the coral design will be the less expensive one to be honnest.
Btw was it the most used set of all New who or the capaldi/Smith spacy one ?

A quick count suggests that the Coral set appeared in 60 episodes in total between Rose and The End of Time part two, with three additional guest appearances in The Eleventh Hour, The Doctor's Wife, and The Day of the Doctor (kind of, sort of, ish).

The Toyota set appeared in 51 episodes in total between The Snowmen and Twice Upon a Time.

So, yeah, Coral is currently in the lead as the most frequently used TARDIS interior of the new series.

And if i'm correct on the fact that it was the less expensive set to make and maintain, it would be the most valable i guess. It's funny because i always see this and the capaldi interior as the most iconic. I kinda get why now, we've been fed quite à lot with thoses 2 over the years

Not sure why...
I assumed it was because it had sleek, clean lines like a Toyota car?

(It's my personal fave of the new consoles.... I didn't really like Davids, Matts or Jodies... fussy bu@@er, ain't I?)

We all have our favourit, all New who interiors are big départure from the original design that (for the exeption of the macgann tardis, the 2ndary consol room and the aborted concept for mccoy) stayed very similar from 63 to 88. I personnaly liked the patched work look of the coral interior, for who much more used and personnal thé tardis felt(and for sure mostly because i discovered thé show with rose and n°9) but i can see how much, for classic viewer, this tardis can look bad.all dirty missmatched pièces, to much randomness, all warm and kinda dangerous looking to be fair.

And if not for the Macgann's tardis, it would feel even worse i think. It's juste not the same tardis, it's not even really improuvements. It can even be said that it makes the tardis look fragile and crumbly.

It's à question onf context, taste and point of view.

Getting back to your point, i'll make sure to rewatch the confidentials épisodes. I know there's one about the console room in the first séries. So may be we could find an estimate for the Coral one. It as a réputation as being the cheap set that had to endure a few major repaires and upgrader (mostly ligh bulbs and the entier time rotor because of an accident with the lights)

For the coper tardis, i'm scared the confidentials doesn't bother much to talk about the redesign, but they've be quite à fuss about youtubers visiting it and interviewing some set désigner and exécutives. I've seen one from charlieissocoollike for exemple.
Also i've seen that the time rotor and glass ground were very expensive, and i'm almost sure i've heard of à price somewhere out of the mouth of someone official (éd Thomas even i believe(

The Toyota isn't much coverd either, even less then the coper, but i've broased around and heard about about 1million pounds because of the mécanisme and light work. Quite A few commandes on the console actualy did stuff, mostly lighting because it's quiet. Altho this price is just rumors, i do believe it's not to far from réality.

Right! I can see it, but to be fair, "sleek clean lines" can apply to many brands of cars. Or a brand-new vinyl record, if you ask your hipster friend.

It's my favourite one too, but I can't dislike the others. Well, maybe Whittaker's console room, though I have warmed up to it a little bit with ironically the moody blue lighting.

To bring something a bit more relevant to this, I seem to recall someone saying in here that Pickwoad's console room (Capaldi's console room) cost about the same as Brachaki's console room adjusted for inflation? I wouldn't quote me on this though! The comment is eluding me, I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.

I don't have much hope of ever liking this interior. It's funny because i really like the exterior and à few ideas. But there's not much boutons and switches, wich i get is suposed to be the point, but i don't like it anyway as a concept. Also those out of shape cristals feels wierd to me, wich is funny from à Guy that likes the corral design. I guess it's like the newberry box, i'm trying but i just don't like it.

And I think It's even more wonderful how the average person shakes their head at us because they often can't tell the difference!!

I was intrigued by the general aesthetic of Whittaker's control room, but the "interface" components of the console itself just doesn't "mesh with the rest of the crystalline tech.  It's like a layer of "steampunk" was haphazardly slapped onto the rest.

Does anybody remember the 1980 science series "Cosmos" hosted by Carl Sagan?  Between recording at real locations, Sagan was often depicted piloting a "spaceship of the imagination".  The control station was shaped like a desk sized "chevron".  the surface was a "smoked" translucent material beneath which "crystals" flickered randomly as Carl casually "danced" his fingers as though playing a keyboard.  That's what I thought we'd get before we saw Whittaker's console in greater detail.  Something like that would have "blended" better with the rest of the interior.

Of course, a motif like that eliminates the "tactile" aspect of pushing buttons, flicking switch and pulling levers, but I think an actor could present some dramatic flair if treating the set piece like some grand pipe organ.  It would also drive home the notion this is truly "alien" technology beyond human comprehension.

Just the jumble of pipeworks just didn't (doesn't) gel with the rest of the set, at least for me.

But hey, i guess that's pation. Some like Justin biber, other knows everything about Elvis, we can pick appart every tardis from any eras.

And it's a facinating topic, i'm so happy this place exists^^
