this is wonderful stuff, really great work. Its going to be a terrific console, much better than the current one.

I agree, its better to get all the bits assembled first and then plan from there. I'm slowly gathering parts for my eventual console build.

So have you had any thoughts about your time rotor yet?

thats the big one...i did some sketches a couple of weeks ago on the back of an envelope which took me in the direction I wanted to go. I have to google acrylic tubes and get prices- I have read a few threads on here about it and it seems the price is always big.

I liked the time rotor on the original series, and  I may go that way with height, because my ceilings arent that forgiving(height wise). As to design; I would like to go away from the type 40 rotor and design something different; as there have been subsquent Types up until the timewar. Keep everyone posted.

Well, it must be possible to do a central column cover from thin-and-bendy plastic sheet, and probably for a small fraction of the cost of a solid one. In fact I rather suspect the console on the TV show had one like this for at least some of its history. Take a look here:

You can see the seams up the sides. It could probably be done less conspicuously, also.

I googled 'Acyrlic Tube manufacturer' and looked at a few companies that fabricate them but it's the cost of the things; so I may do the plastic sheet thing until work picks up so I can actually afford one.

Jarrod's 5 Docs console cover is made from thin and bendy stuff, wrapped right around a perspex top disc I think.  I couldn't tell until I touched it, looked spot on.  I know he'll pop up sooner or later and tell you himself but I'm pretty sure his cost him a grand total of only a little sweat.

WOW!
I can see that you have planned this out really well!
When are you going to start building?
Great Stuff
I wish my console was that good (even though yours is still the the drawing stage, it looks great)

I would recommend a dremel for the small stuff,  you can get wood cutting bits for small work like that.  Love the design progress and I am watching eagerly.

As a new inhabitant in Northern Europe, I was recently thinking of these as nice things that could look good on a console.

I have taken a brake from designing as Im painting my bathroom and it's taking longer than expected; it seemed a good idea at the time.

Its been awhile since ive been on here as my pc decided to die. In this process I lost all of my console designs and only have the ones I posted to photobucket. Recently Ive been sketching console shapes and ideas of raising it on a plinth. Ive bought some more switches from the ever reliable maplins(who can beat there prices) and will have to literaly go back to the drawing board with my designs for switches and dial placement
